Soon from verizon equates to a month or longer. I don't think this phone will see Skype, Netflix, or Onlive until after gingerbread, and that won't be out until around June.
The Best Buy demo phone (I checked it out today) had a Skype app. When I ran it, it asked for account info and I quit the app. Is this for voice calls only?

Skype Video calling was originally a big advertising push on this phone. Unfortunately it got delayed, and there is no ETA at this time; however, it's suspected we'll see it within the next few months, and probably latest in the Gingerbread 2.3/2.4 update due in May or June.
VZW stores were supposed to cover up the Skype logos last minute.
I downloaded Skype Mobile from the market. It installs but won't open. when I click on it:
"This version if Skype won't run on your device. Skype Mobile with video is coming soon - you will receive an automatic update when it is available"
This surprised me as I thought I could at least use Skype TXT messaging - guess not.

There are two versions of Skype on the market... One is, I believe, called Skype for Verizon and the other one is just plain Skype. The one for Verizon is the one that gives you the message, the other one should just run like normal. Neither have video chat.
What ever happened to all the apps that were advertised as coming to the tbolt? Apps like, Netflix, Skype with video, Onlive, Hulu Plus, Google Music, and Gingerbread. This phone should have been released with all of these included.

None of those apps except for Skype, were ever advertised as launching on this phone. You are mistaking rummors for advertisement. The only apps that were played up to launch were Rock Band, Mobile Hotspot, and Skype with video. The only one that wasn't on at launch was Skype, and that was because Skype messed up and is delaying the video chat portion of the app.

Right and none of those apps even have a release date, they aren't available on any phone yet how is this an Android problem? Netflix is available on iPhone, however it is coming to Android in a month or two.
This is not an issue with the Android system handling social media apps, it is an issue with the apps being released by the developers of the app. Heck Google Music isn't even available in any form yet, and Gingerbread (an update to the Android OS itself) hasn't been released for all phones yet either.
