Root Successful Evo 3D ROM flashes?

Just trying to get an idea for how many people have successfully been able to flash Evo 3D ROM's. If so, maybe list the ROM , your S-on/off status and the type of recovery your using..

not sure if anyone else has run into this, but the trouble I'm having is i can not for the life of me flash any AOSP ROM's from the 3D.. i have tried 5-10 different one's..on twrp1,twrp2 and 4EXT

oh yeah also i should note i tried two different Sense ROM's from the 3D..Decks ICSense..and the Sense 4.0 Port..both of them booted and worked properly minus the few issues that also plagued the 3D..ie..4g..3D

You can flash almost any of them. S-On or Off.
You just have to flash it in 2 parts for S-On.

Regardless of S-On or S-Off, MMS will NOT work unless it's patched and it's mostly AOSP/AOKP and CM that can be patched and not even all of them sometimes.

There can also be other issues.

i see..i really couldnt care less about MMS personally..and I'm used to the standard 4g,camera stuff that's broke in most aosp roms..i could deal with it..but i need to figure what is preventing the aosp roms -only- from booting on my phone..i figured if i could see a show of hands of people who own the phone and have successfully flashed an aosp rom it would be on my end, or my phone specifically ..but i have seen a few people say it can be done..but no one actually step forward and say yes i own the phone and i have done it..kinda confusing

Some roms need specific firmware/hboot to run right.

i was also reading about a certain ics kernel that some of the actual 3d owners are having trouble with..i think cayniarb <----not sure if thats spelled right

maybe its kernel related sense i can get to bootani but will not boot into android

Odd.
If you see the boot animation the it means framework is loading/loaded and it's either not finishing or the launcher is missing.

It could be a bad download, an md5 check on the rom (as it sits on the sdcard), will show you if it's a bad download. However, the wrong kernel could cause framework to not load, which is the most likely scenarios. Even 4EXT isn't foolproof on inserting kernels with s-on. If you really want to play, you need to go S-off. Otherwise you are just going to be fighting it constantly.

If you are S-foff, then it could be the hboot or the recovery you use.

i am s-off..and i currently use 4ext..and i have tried two other recoveries..what's weird is how i can flash any sense rom with no issue..but every aosp ics rom bootloops from bootani back to htc splash and repeats cycle till i pull battery and restore sense

is it possible to switch to a different hboot? are the new hboot versions more problematic then the old ones?

To me, that sounds like an Hboot issue, but I could be wrong.

At least one person has put the modded Juopunutbear hboot on and they seem okay with it (I retained stock when I went S-off). I am pretty sure it puts a 1.50 hboot on.

I'm not very familiar with the whole thing, but I know the hboot we have is pretty ICS/Sense specific and maybe that is why.

Has anyone had any success with flashing gingerbread roms?
I have one CM7 made, ready to try (with working mms), but I don't think there are any non-sense that work fully.

I took it down after I spotted an issue with it, and haven't put it back up yet and as far as I know it's untested. There's really not much point to it, most people want to go up, not down.

seems like alot of wasted work..all the development done on the evo 3d and all we can flash is a few sense roms lol..nothing wrong with sense..but wish we had the option to flash anything..

what are the 2 parts for S-on ?

I have Cool ICS v5 CDMA patched for Virgin Mobile (everything works). I also replaced Rosie.apk to give me 5x4 instead of the 4x4 icon layout of the stock Sense. First I unlocked the bootloader with HTC dev then I used Juopunutbear wire trick to get S-OFF. Then I installed 4EXT recovery, flashed the superuser zip, and flashed Cool ICS and replaced the rosie.apk.

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question but is this an AOSP Rom, or a sensless type?

It is Sense, Rosie.APK is HTC's launcher. I like this rom, its best to hold you over until everything is working in CM9.

ill have to give that a try, thank you.. i have been using sense 4 for the past two days, and really like it..i plan on using it until a pure AOSP or CM Rom is available for us

That ROM also let me upgrade my stock ROM so I didn't have to re-install everything. Android updated everything on first boot. I would also replace the Rosie.apk I supplied, it lets you have more icons on the screen. I also installed Juopunutbear modified hboot.

Check the official support thread for the s-off and I suspect there is a way.

how would i go about installing this rom and how did you get mms to work ?

It is based of the virgin mobile ICS leak, not the sprint one, MMS just works. I installed it from 4EXT recovery after I unlocked my bootloader with HTCdev and used Juopunutbear to get S-OFF. If you don't get S-OFF you have to flash part of the rom with freeboot and adb commands.

is it safe for phone to do s-off. i heard that's what makes htc phones unbrickable. or should i go s-on instead. also what is the part you have to flash in fastboot if your not s-off?

S-OFF is perfectly safe as long as you have a nandroid backup. Everything can be borked on an HTC phone as long as you can get to hboot (even with s-off). Also if you are a member of this forum you shouldn't need extra security on the phone short of a custom recovery to keep from bricking. S-ON was to keep people from modifying HTC phones, not to protect from bricks. Enough nerds complained until HTC allowed unlocking through HTCdev. Short answer, always have a backup and you are always safe!

At the very least you need "unlocked s-on" through HTCdev

From the download page: If you Unlocked your Bootloader via HTCDev.com, then you need to extract the Boot Image from Cool-ROM.zip and flash it via fastboot ”fastboot flash boot boot.img”
