Actually, all it would take is using a good codec (cough h264 cough cough), and a slightly higher bitrate.

Yeah, but that's like Chinese to most of us. And I'd like to keep my warranty in tact so HTC/Sprint need to get with the program. Is there/Can we start a thread that will flood them with requests to make the camera better, has anyone gotten a response about it. They had to know it was garbage without ideal lighting conditions before they sent the phones out.

Definitely a nice video. Someone should try to make a video or advertisement with our HTC Evo 4G device.

wow that video was really well done. would have been even more impressive if it was edited all in phone with iMovie. But either way the iPhone 4 camcorder beats the tar out of the EVO's camcorder. I can barely stand using mine its frame rate is so bad.

The camcorder in the Evo could be dramatically improved through software. The video codec being used is awful. All it would take is a higher bitrate with a better codec. I really don't understand why they're using .3gp in lieu of H.264.

That video quality is most definitely unmatched by any other phone.

Yeah, no joke. I can't even make a thread with a legitimate concern without being called a Troll. I think peoples age being posted next to their username should be a requirement. I'm 27, and I bet most of the name callers on here are under 18.

HTC will never put the H.264 codec on the phone; but is this something that is possible to be improved on??? Can someone other than HTC develop the H.264 codec to be used on the EVO?

this is really a trade off for having SD cards an not internal memory. they set the bitrate low to ensure smooth write to class 2 SD cards, while apple does not have to worry about such things because they have 50x more bandwidth with internal memory. with that said, if you're willing to mess with root, i'm sure someone will figure out how to improve the quality, but you might need ot invest in a class 4 or 6 sd card to make it work.

First, what makes you think people would actually register with their real birthdate if that was a requirement? I know 45 year olds who are not as mature as some 16 year olds.

Second, why stop there...include their real name, confirmed address, and social security number...

Hmmm, I believe I saw a post earlier about the SD card issue, and saying even the class 2 cards should be fine, just as long as it doesn't go past a certain size. Could be wrong. But yea, that is a nice video, IF IT was recorded with the iPhone 4. Either way, the iPhone's video is still much better than the Evo's, I'm disappointed -_-. Look at these 2 screen-shots I just took. I took them when there was the least amount of movement.

    iPhone:

    Evo:

Something's not right. Also the numbers at the top left in yellow are the frame rates. Video was set to average, all the best tweaks I can do.

H263 is an older codec compared to h264. Kinda like mp2 to mp3, if any of you are old enough to remember that lol.

Speaking of the camcorder, I specifically remember seeing some of the ads for this phone tout the 720p video capture. Technically, this is totally uncorrect, as true 720p video has a resolution of 1280x720 (which we have) and a framerate of 60fps (which we dont have). So technically they lied to us.

Is this a joke or a bad troll? If that's the best you can do with the EVO then I'll say user error.

    Unfortunately that's real.

Tell me what I'm doing wrong then:

    White Balance: Auto
    Resolution: 720p
    Encoding type: MP4
    Metering: Average
    Flicker: Auto
    Auto Focus: On
    Face Detection: On

Like I said, I walked from my room to outside, when I was viewing that fence you see in the screenshot, I paused for a bit, hoping it would adjust, but that's just the quality it is. Unless it's my phone itself. But taking pictures on the other hand, isn't so bad.

This video is bullsh*t LMAO. I shoot photos and videos for a living and I can tell you there are VERY few scenes in that video that are shot on an iPhone. The opening shot at their feet is shot with some type of camera on a glide track or rails. No way you get that with an iPhone. Look at the difference in quality of the footage of the couple at 55 seconds. First shot at 55 seconds is a video camera on a tripod as its much more clear, detailed and still. Second shot at 56 seconds could be an iphone MAYBE (doubtful) and the 3rd one at 57 seconds you can tell its an iPhone. Notice the jerky hand held motion and the rolling shutter.

If it was shot with those Owle's, its a moot point anyways. It has a full on glass lens built into it and completely different optics, so thats misleading. Thats like dropping a Corvette engine into a Ford Escort and then telling everyone at a race its a stock Escort  Huge difference.
