Help Unable to get past the lock screen on my S6 after update?

Phone updated last night and i havnt been able to use it since, keeps asking for a lock screen password which i have never set? and everytime i try have to wait another hour before i can enter another ahhh!!
I would factory reset but dont want to lose all my contacts is there any way round this ??

If the password is not 0000 then u have to factory data reset your phone. Google sign in was removed after 4.4 ... next time u better save your contacts to your Google account so u can walk over these problems.

It would be asking for your fingerprint backup password if you had a fingerprint lockscreen set.
