Weirdness with Google Music offline

I'm running the latest version of Google Music on my rooted T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2 and while I love the convenience of having my music in the cloud, I had to admit that, without an equalizer, Google Music didn't sound nearly as good as the stock player. So I installed third party app -- AnEq Equalizer -- which worked really well, until I tried it on music that I made available offline. It seems once Google Music saves a file locally, it no longer responds to ANY equalizer app -- I tried several. Of course this wouldn't be an issue if Google Music had its own eq built-in (which I hope will happen eventually) but I just thought it was weird that once it saved a file locally, no equalizer or audio effects worked.
Any one else experience this, and maybe found a solution? Thanks in advance!!
