Why I would consider buying an iPad...

ipad could be used to view the whole web page in any way either in landscape form or portrait. As it is a large multi touch screen and can be easily operated with the help of finger. Its is also having a option of Mail app which enable us to see the mails in extremely different way.Can enjoy videos, tu shows, podcast and many more. so go for i pad.

Firstly, let me state i am a gadget freak and an Apple fan.

However, i saved hard and bought an iPad, 64gig version.

Beautiful screen - thats the plus.

Everything else however was such a dissapointment.

It does nothing that an iPhone can do, just in a large screen. I bought pages for it, but once i had created a couple of documents on it, i then transferred them to my pc. They looked terrible and the formatting didnt work.

You see, if you are going to have a tablet device and you are going to spend that much money, you want it to be able to perform practical tasks alongside the fun stuff!

It does not do this and is an overpriced piece of tech that has just been very well marketed.

I sold it and bought a high specced laptop with the funds.

...or another tablet for that matter.

At first glance, I look at the iPad and, like most people, say whats the point!? Yes Apple has chosen to "create" a new category that fits between a smartphone and a laptop and so must of us just perceive it as a luxury item with no necessity involved.

Now, a while back I read an interesting article that spoke of Apple's (presumed) attempt at killing Kindle with the launch of the iPad and subsequently the iBook application. this sparked my attention as my wife and i are avid Kindle fans and users.

here was the ultimate point that was made. the KindleDX is $489. the iPad starts at $499. so for most people this would become a no brainer. for $10 more, look at all the extras you get and get to do. i think this is valid and fair point.

if i were in the market for a new Kindle, or similar device, heck yeah I look at an iPad or similar tablet depending on what it has to offer. someday, it seems for me at least, there is a spot for a tablet in my backpack.

what are your thoughts?

The ipad is nice but it is no kindle, the kindles technology allows you to read the device just as if it where a book, with no backlighting causing eye problems.

The ipad is the same as any other tablet... It just has a mac os on it

Of course if you lived in the Apple world and had iWork on a Mac, those documents would look perfect. However most of us do not live in the Apple world, and so doing office work on an iPad will give the above mentioned problems.

The iPad as a consumer device with particular advantages and defects. It's made by a brand, not a political party. Part of the reason there's no political opposition in America is because consumerism has replaced activism, and changing your brand isn't a meaningful substitute for changing the world. That's why conversations about Apple are laced with disproportionate animosity.

About the iPad:

I spent the day with my friend's iPad when he first got it and had time to explore. My conclusion: I would never pick up this particular iteration. I don't like its Word-replacing app because I'd rather my word processor provide me with useful things like a cursor and not be shrinking the page when I twitch. I'd rather it not be swooping and sweeping across the magazine I'm designing and finishing decent half-written words in the headers, rendering them crushing banalities.

I like the way the iPad desktop looks. I love the external design. What I don't like is having cosmic choices made for me when all I want is to write and compose.

The best automated software makes decisions that are transparent, not obtrusive. It doesn't blunder over to your table and skip twenty pages past the precise line on which you were trying to write so that it can randomly look up the word stentorian. It doesn't zoom and twiddle and try to wow you like a drunken magician. It politely stays out of your way until you need it.

I love the IPS panel but find the resolution gimped. The iPad would be a terrible replacement for my Kindle because the less-than-retinal resolution makes small text blinding, whereas Kindles are a pleasure to read. That matters to me because I often have to read for eight hours straight.

===========================

However:

I don't believe in sniping at Apple or Apple users because, for one thing, it's naive to think that whatever company makes the products you love isn't run by dictators. Beethoven wasn't a nice guy, but his string quartets are the best. His personality isn't the point. The point is the end result.

And yet Apple hatred isn't reserved for the company itself. People actually berate the devices on principle. We've reached an odd point in civilized society when we aim our most bitter character assassination at inanimate objects.

Apple is still better than Android tablets due to Android's lack of Marketplace for larger screen devices. If there is a better tablet out in the market compared to iPad in hardware perspective, but without a market place, what would be right price gap between the two units?

That's the main thing that has been turning me off on the Android tablet's that are coming out soon, no Market. Now I'm looking at the BlackBerry PlayBook.

If I where to have any kind of large tablet device, it would have to run Windows, OS X or maybe Ubuntu, not a mobile OS(iOS or Android) and it must have USB ports. So it would be self-supporting and not dependant on another computer just to get documents and content on or off the thing.

I would not get a windows based device without a keyboard. Tried on with Windows and the amount of typing necessary to operate, kind of bothers me. I am not sure if it is due to the processor that works with windows, but device tend to get pretty heated up after using for 20 min. or so. Imagine holding laptops on your hand after using it for a while.

They already make one of those...they are called netbooks.

Let's make this the 'nice things to say about the iPad' thread. Yes, it is flawed and pointless, but you can't argue it doesn't have some good features and uses. By fervently denying this, we're no better than the Apple fanboys who so blindly try to defend Apple at every opportunity.

I dislike Apple, but I love the iPad. It is well made, thin, great screen, and I can see myself using it for work. The soft keyboard is better than I thought it would be; I am a technical writer and in the time I spent with it, it seemed fine.

I only wish it had a USB Port so I can save documents on a flash drive.

What keeps me from buying one is somethng more to my liking arrives the day after I take delivery of the iPad.

I'd rather get a macbook than any tablet. Just as portable and you can actually do stuff like MS Office and Photoshop. This whole tablet craze is just a diversion from the potential of a powerful pocket computer that you can have with you at any time.

I can see the device being ideal for my work. I do not mind the soft keyboard and the word processor is just fine. I'd toss my laptop if I could, and go with the iPad.

What prevented me from byuing one is the lack of a USB port.

Erm, hi. I might consider buying it for the 'jailbreak' though. Just wait for iDroid, which transform iDevices to Android with all the functions like Android Markets. And yes, after you jailbroke and buy this app called PwnTunes, YES! USB-PORT TO COM AND USE IPAD LIKE A FLASHDRIVE! Its definately possible. Next time, better look at forums like sinfuliphone (im in and WE HATE APPLE)! Such forums reveils all the best part of the devices, but sadly, hardly anyone knows unless one owns a iDevice

Ipads and tabelts are in a bizzare niche market I don't quite understand...

I have an ultra-portable 11" Acer Notebook that is dual-core and therefor runs anything I need on the go far quicker than an Ipad can. + Lots of storage. I went backpacking in Europe for 3 months, an Ipad would have been near useless for me as I ended with 75 gigs of photos. No prob on my 300 GB hard-drive with multiple ports.

My custom built home PC is fine and runs very fast, no problem with any current games or anything.

Arguements i've heard from people with Ipads are things like "good to read the inernet while laying on the coach". Things like that. I also have an e-reader with e-ink or whatever and loads of ebooks allready on a device with better size to hold and read for long periods than Ipad...

And the highest level Ipad is more expensive than my E-reader and Laptop combined...

Odd. Technology may just be too new and lacklustre to see where i'd use it. Playbook at least has some decent specs and USB ports/cameras etc. See how it looks on arrival.
