consensus on replacement phones?

so what is the consensus on replacement phones?

I've recently read and saw the video about the different screen distributors and have read many different things regarding hardware 0002 vs 0003.

I got mine on launch day and have the 0002 version. Only real issues I've had (minor light leakage aside) is the grounding issue, which i read may be fixed with an OTA update soon. And most recently in the past couple days, I've experienced random reboots when coming in and out off apps, or the phone freezes while scrolling and reboots.

I guess what's really getting to me is that my 30 days is coming up and at this point in time, I feel like it's a crap shoot when getting a replacement phone based on everything I've read.

Can anyone provide some insight? Should I request a replacement?

another random reboot occurred this morning. I was actually on a phone call and next thing you know, I hear the chimes from reboot. I look at the phone and sure enough it's rebooting, funny thing is that I could still hear the person on the other line but they were on speakerphone all of a sudden as it was rebooting. Called them back, and they said they couldnt hear me at that point.

thanks for the replies guys.

any other thoughts?

I have an 02 and very slight lift at bottom left corner. Tiny light leak at home and search but barely noticeable. my phone had random reboots until i did a factory reset. All is good now. Not using any task killers this time. 1yr mfg warranty on defects. Im not too worried about returning it.

I have HW version 0003 and have no physical or operational problems with it at all.

However, I have been reading that HTC changed LCD panel manufacturers between versions 0002 and 0003 -- and that the quality of the 0003 LCDs is lower than the 0002. Someone posted a video comparison and there was a noticeable difference in color/brightness/contrast. But, I don't see any quality problems with my 0003 LCD panel.

I'm in the same boat. It feels like my phone is slowly deteriorating.

Week 1: Only had headphone issues and minor light leak (only home and search)
Week 2: Discovered grounding issue and more light leak, fixed my headphone issues
Week 3: Light leak under all 4 keys, grounding issue intermittent but happens 100% of the time on my car mount, phone rebooted itself this morning, now getting horrible speed tests
Week 4: Let's see how much worse it gets

I baby my phone. There is not one scratch on it and I wipe fingerprints off with a microfiber cloth. I now have a TPU case for it. No abuse at all.

Radio shack has nothing in stock and has no idea when they will get any. As much as I still love this phone, I think it's smart just to cancel it all and go back to a TP2 until the dust settles.

again, I appreciate all the replies.

Light leakage, I can deal with, I have had a case on it since I got it so I don't ever see the leakage anyway.

The grounding issue is more annoying than anything, tho I can see how it would become more problematic if sitting in a car mount which I hope to have once I find one I like. Just don't want to commit to one until I have a phone thats acceptable, hopefully it's still the Evo.

The rebooting is just unacceptable... sigh

And honestly it's the only time it bothers me. It's a huge hassle because when you're trying to drag Google maps around or scroll down to pick a song and your finger hits the dead zone, it just clicks whatever you're on.

I use the back button a lot in my car. :\

I can't exchange because Radio Shack has no idea when they will be getting more. He told me to go in today and talk to the manager to make sure they can at least extend my 30 day window. I'm actually thinking of returning it completely but the thought of having to deal with un-doing my upgrade and making sure it's all good so I can upgrade next month kinda makes me worry. Not to mention going back to WinMo after having the speed of android.

The #3 builds are by far better handsets.

That statement is not supported by fact. As mentioned elsewhere, there are plenty of people with 003 builds that are having issues.

No kidding. Stop saying this. I don't think you understand that phones pieces can be manufactered in different factories so when put together they have different quality to them. The first iPhone had two entirely different screens. To the lay person no one could tell, but if you really looked close their was a difference.

You are always going to find some things wrong. Hell I called it when the new iPhone came out that it would have problems...and guess what....little nit pickers are saying they have yellowing on the screen and that they drop calls when they hold it with their left hand (although the last one is kinda bad). Our problems are so little that only a forum would complain.

To the OP. Go return it and then realize the second one will have "issues" (I put that in quotes because no one else even realizes they exist). The undoubtedly third one you will get will also have issue. Repeat getting phones until you realize they are never perfect....not even the jesus phone. [/rant]

I got mine at a Radio Shack as well. Please let me know about the possibility of extending the 30 day window. I'm assuming that only applies to the radio shack 30 day return, not Sprints? Meaning even if Radio shack extends your 30 days, you would still be locked in with Sprints 2 year contract after the initial 30. Right?

I hear what you're saying, but this just proves a point that most of us on these forums don't consider themselves the lay person. At least I don't, I research the hell out of any kind of technology I'm looking to purchase. I know I'll never catch up to technology, hence all the research. To me it's not about getting the phone that everyone says is the best, I do my research and get whats best for me. I fell into the trap of the G1 and was excited and worried at the same time about being an early adopter of Android. G1 is crap and I appreciate the Evo even more just for that reason. With technology the way it is today and the amount of things out there that is just not marketed to the public yet, we'll never see a perfect device cuz there will always be that next best thing on the horizon.

As stated many times in other posts, the majority of people come on to forums to find answers to their "issues" and those posts far our number the My phone is the best posts, blah blah blah. We've all heard it before...

Like I said, other things i can deal with, but constant rebooting throughout the day is unacceptable. Should we expect an update to resolve this issue or is it a hardware thing?
