Wifi while in airplane mode

I don't think you would get phone service regardless as I'm pretty sure they don't have CDMA networks in Europe, but you might want to check on that. However, I'm pretty sure that using GPS navigation would rely on some sort of data connection so I don't think you would be able to use it in airplane mode.

If I were you I would just leave the Droid in the United States.

There are applications that use the GPS that don't require maps so it will work without an internet connection. It just depends what application you are using and whether it requires an internet connection to work properly.

It is beginning to sound to me that the Wifi will work, but we know the phone system will not work...so it sounds also to me that I would be able to email via Wifi and that is about it...thanks for your input everyone....sberde

Yes it's possible I do it at school since it's like a black hole for cellphone service in the middle of it and I will literally drop half the battery with it just on standby for 6 hours. But with the wifi I can at least receive emails and other data services. At least toting over wifi would be nice...as for gps you can download apps that have all the maps preloaded onto the phone so you won't need data services to use gps.
