Root Easy guide to update to Galaxo or GAOSP!

Hey guys!, I'm trying to flash Galaxy 1.6.3.3 On my Samsung Galaxy I7500L, And at the android 1.0 step when i go into fastboot. In my device manager i have no driver warning pop up, it then proceeds into booting. Any idea?

Hi again,

it's hard to troubleshoot stuff when it comes to drivers, because every computer is different and sometimes it simply do not seem to work for strange reasons.

You could try to flash the JC6 firmware with integrated recovery and removed css (the recovery is what you want and the css is what would have needed to delete, but it has been removed already). You'll find the link on this page (it's the fifth link).

Ok, so I guess you don't know how to use Odin, so I'm going to link you to this and this. I haven't really looked into the first guide, but I know that the second one is a tad different from what you'll be doing.

Basically, if your phone is recognized by Odin, all you have to do is find and select Orion.ops in the Ops section, tick "one package" and then select the JC6 firmware with integrated recovery.

Make sure to sync your contacts and backup your stuff! Oh, and you can continue to PM me or post here if you need some help. :D

Alrighty then, Thanks for the help. Now with this JC6 firmware. Is it the same as Galaxo? Like will my phone be auto rooted?

JC6 is Android 1.6 firmware, but not rooted (unless you do it in the recovery).

I forgot to say that you are doing this simply to have the custom recovery installed on your phone. After that, you simply have to mount your phone on your computer (that worked, right? transferring files?) to put the Galaxo.zip and install it from the recovery. You'll be keeping JC6 only for a few moments.

Alrighty then. I'm not too sure on how to do this. If you could, Please leave a step by step thing in a PM or on a Post here of stuff to do in ODIN?. Like i said,I don't wanna mess this up lol.

EDIT: Seems like my post was useless, we continued via private messages, right where we started. :D

Here's the post just in case someone ever needs it (turns out the JC6 with integrated recovery wasn't One package).

Alright, but I'm going to keep it short.

1- Download Odin from one of the links. It's a PC software.

2- Download the firmware you need (the one with integrated recovery). It's going to be a .rar so you'll need winrar to unpack it.

3- You’re going to need to boot your phone in download mode. Start by turning it off (hold the end call button and select turn off). When it’s off, press and hold Volume Down, Ok, and End Call, as you see on this picture:
downloadmode.jpg

4- Open up Odin and plu-in your phone via USB whilst it is in download mode. Here is a picture from Odin and I'll mention it again later. There should be something in the top left square if your phone is recognized.

odin.jpg

5- Click the "select OPS" button and browse to "orion.ops". It should be with Odin when you downloaded it.

6-Don't put anything under "Select images to download". Click the "One Package" button and browse to the .tar file (the firmware you downloaded, it should be a .tar inside the .rar).

7- Don't forget to tick "One package" in the "Option" section.

8- You’re ready to go, press “Start” (it is grayed out in the picture because I had already clicked). I wasn't doing exactly the same thing as you though, so it's normal your stuff shouldn't look like the picture.

9- Wait, lots of stuff are going to happen.

10- When you're done, it is recommended to do a factory reset.

Keep me posted!

sorry if this has been asked beforfe i wasnt really wanting to go through all threads... but what is Galaxo? is it a different platform for android phones? Im a noob and and trying to figure all this out.

Thanks

it's a custom firmware made specifically for the samsung galaxy i7500
in a nutshell, some smart people (drakaz et.al.) have tinkered with the firmware updates that samsung has released for the galaxy (i7500) to improve up on them

And by my opinion, maybe others will share the same thought, also by far the best custom ROM or ROM for Sam*censored* Galaxy i7500 for now. Yes, you can also install it on your phone, but you're not ready yet (I think), because you didn't read the guides posted on this forum (DaSchmarotzer wrote one of the best guides so far, for updating to Galaxo 1.6.x.x versions :) ).

But we (some, I'm not) are eagerly waiting for the (drum roles in the background) GAOSP with Froyo (Android 2.2) Beta 3 or RC. And that would be the best (last???) custom ROM for our unit Sam*censored* Galaxy i7500. :p

You surprise me! Considering how much more you seem to know about the state of GAOSP than me, you're not "eagerly" waiting for the release ?!??

Yes, I'm eager to test or use every new nightly build of GAOSP, off course BETA 3 included. :p

I wish that Drakaz has a nice vacation and when he comes back (fresh and with new ideas) releases GAOSP public BETA 3. :D

so i respectfully accept that you think that i am not ready, as i do think so myself, how ever, I am eager to learn more about my phone. and i want to know if i installing Galaxo, does it act like a higher version firmware? comparable to say 2.1???

forgive my ignorance to not know much about this stuff.

Galaxo is based on (un)official Android 1.6 donut release by Sam*censored*. So answer to your question is no (Android 2.1 = Eclair). But Galaxo acts like a higher version of Sam*censored* stock ROM. :D
On the other hand GAOSP nightly (not GAOSP public beta 2) is based on Android 2.2 (Froyo) which is higher then Eclair. But if you install GAOSP nightly on your phone but didn't get your phone unlocked you will have troubles syncing with google (you will need to use workarounds in order to use it but market will be unreachable). However if you decide to unlock your phone, you must have on your phone Sam*censored* stock ROM.

you are likely now running a 1.5 firmware, maybe 1.6
galaxo is also based on 1.6

the difference between galaxo and samsung's official 1.6 firmwares are some modifications, such as swap support, wifi tethering etc. plus some tweaks that make galaxo run somewhat faster in general

my advice would be to just go ahead and install galaxo asap - it's easier than you'd think from reading the stuff about it - just open up the guide in the sticky and follow it; you'll be done in a half an hour

So i have done all of step one but have come to a hault, I used the usb_driver.inf out of the amd64 folder cause im using windows 7 (64bit) so after i clicked finish i got a error message saying ( Windows encountered a probleminstalling the driver software for your device...
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
ADB Testing Interface
The system cannot find the file specified
If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software.

If I knew how to past a pic of the print screen i would have put that up. Anyway I have also downloaded the tools.rar and used the android_usb file in there as well and got the same result...

So please help... am i doing something wrong?

Thanks

my advice would be to use 32bit comp. its required only once so u can use your friend's.Afterwards You can do almost everything from within your phone. in 32 bit installing pc studio will install all your driver. I had the same trouble. used my friend's comp. everything went very smooth.

This is news to me. I didn't realize the 64-bit drivers were ... un-usable. (I'm on Win7 32bit).

Yeah, in this scenario, borrowing a friend's laptop might be a good idea.

The easiest way is by using GalaxoUpdater (donated version of course) by Drakaz. With free version you can only install Recovery 6.3. You will find it on the market.
First install Recovery 6.3, go in recovery and do Nandroid backup of your phone. Then proceed with installation of chosen ROM (Galaxo or a GAOSP nightly).

ok, here goes, please bear with me guys cos i need your help!

ive been following the tutorial on how to set up galaxo
ive downloaded all the required files
flashed to 1.6
installed the correct files on my phone

i set up the new firmware but my processes had to be slightly different to those described

when i get to the recovery and update section "You’ll have about 15 seconds to press enter on the command prompt on the computer. If it works, you’ll see something else than “waiting for device” appear in the command prompt."

i dont see the waiting for device, it says "failed to load"

when i attempt to browse for the firmware a second time, my PC wont let me update saying files could not be found... even thouh it worked the first time.
im so stuck!

Dude no need to install recovery image manually
Read the post below by lelouch and install galaxy Updater. It will install the latest recovery; in this case 6.4.

Once that is done you can shift files to your internal memory ( 8 gb) and then install it from the recovery menu.

oh !!! I still remember the recovery 4.4 days when we had to install recovery manually ... that was the most difficult part of upgrading our galaxy,s...But now its a breeze. If you install the paid version it can even download the latest galaxo - 1.6.4.4 or the latest nightly 2010918 in this case over the air.

Over the Air Updates Rock :)

but mate, i dont think ive got that far have i? is my phone rooted or not!?
I used odin to install 1.6 but i cant get into recovery mode yet??

First thing first.

You're now on Sam*censored* stocked ROM?
Just go on market find, download and install GalaxoUpdater (paid or not paid version). With it download Recovery 6.4 and install it (it's the easiest way tp get it done, just use Wi-Fi to save costs).
It seems something got wrong on your attempt to install it. Btw, did your PC regonized your phone before your attempt?
