sund0wn,

Which lag fix did you run? I know there are multiple ones out there.

I'm still nervous about running it (but I REALLY want to) after what happened with the Vibrant.

I think I'll wait to root until there is a recovery out for the Fascinate.

the root was cake (if you know how to use adb).
for the fix, i did it with adb. but, i also did it with the one click lag fix app in the market, because i wanted to see how easy it was. the app in the market makes it really easy. altogether, it took me about 10 minutes to go from stock, to rooted with the lag fix.

but, it may be a good idea to wait til there is a restore method.

Hey i got the lag fix app but I cant get my bootloader to open. I pushed volume down and pressed and released power but I got a page that said downloading don't close target, and it sat on that screen for ever. So can you give me any tips or tell me how you got the bootloader to open? Thanx:D

You shouldn't need to for the lag fix...?

that is the bootloader.
if it is recovery you are looking for, you hold both volume buttons and press power.

both can also be done with adb

bootloader = adb reboot download

recovery = adb reboot recovery

If the Fascinate has a better cpu/gpu than the X, shouldnt the quadrant scores be higher also? :thinking:
You'd think so huh. The "score" quadrant spits out is largely dependent on the I/O benchmarks. Without the lagfix, apparently the Galaxy S phones weren't scoring very high as a result. The lag fix address this issue hence the better scores. At the end of the day much like in the computer world a Quadrant score is kinda like your 3DMark score. Its fun to brag about its still just a synthetic benchmark.
Something like NeoCore or An3DBench [both in the Market] are a little bit more cpu/gpu based and will be more accurate for comparing devices capabilities

+1. it is not smart to put much stock in benchmark scores. total numbers arent really all that important. it all depends on how much stock the specific bench puts on each part of the test. the x cpu scores higher, but if you watch the 2D and 3D tests side-by-side, it is absolutely amazing how the Fascinate blows the X out of the water. my favorite is the one with the orbiting spheres. the x puts out 10-12fps while the Fascinate puts it out a ~56fps.

what really matters is what you do with your phone, and how that phone performs in real life. i do use both phones, and they both have their strong points. for video/gaming, nothing touches the galaxy s.

i use the x for business purposes (email, calls, nav, etc.) and i use the fascinate for personal (games, videos, music). and, i think each of them are better in those respective capacities. i think they are pretty close as far as web browsing as far as speed. i do like that i have flash on my x, but the fascinate will be soon to follow. otherwise, i think they are neck and neck for browsing.

the fascinate's GPU blows the X's clear out of the water, but otherwise i think they are very close. in the real world, i dont think the I/O fix makes a tangible diffeence. certainly not 2.5 times the performance like quadrand suggests. quadrant loosely relates to how well a phone performs, but it can't be taken too seriously. i mean, take the x for example. the scores jump from ~1400 to ~2200 just by enabling a media player that wont even play the videos it records. so, it is all pretty arbitrary.

of course, all of the above is just my personal opinion, and shouldnt be taken as fact. both phones far exceed any expectations i have ever had for a phone, and anyone should be happy to own either.

i simply started this thread for fun. i hope people dont assume their phone isnt performing correctly if they arent making a certain score, because it's all pretty trivial. its just meant for some fun, unimportant bragging rights.

So how do I post my quadrant score image?

grab the app in the market called shoot me, launch it, navigate to screen you want a picture of, shake phone a little and you will hear it start taking pictures

once you have the pictures you can host them however you like, i recommend installing dropbox and uploading the pics to there, then you can post links to the files for people to see online

:)

I just use picasa. Its linked right from the gallery. So literally I can take a screen capture. Go into gallery and upload to picasa. Jump back in here and post the pic 30 seconds after I took it
