Awesome feedback guys!
I had nothing to do this morning so I went into the T-Mobile store where I bought my phone and played around with the G2 for a while. And after a good 15 minutes of checking it out, opening and closing aps, web browsing, etc... All this talk about it being so fast wasn't showing itself. In fact, sitting next to eachother in the store, my phone (the vibrant) did just about everything faster. The G2 couldnt lock a GPS signal and my phone did (in a mall). It was pretty much the opposite of everything I have read so far about the Vibrant being laggy. It was the G2 that was jumpy and not smooth, took a long time to open aps and close them. I'm very confused now where all the negativity towards the vibrant comes from. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing the G2 has going for it is the Flash 10.1, but that doesn't make or break a phone. Obviously the Vibrant can still do the same things on the web, not to mention Flash 10.1 is on its way to the Vibrant anyway. The phone was also VERY heavy and I feel like it would pull my pants down if I put it in my pocket. The slide out keyboard was very flimsy and I think that if was open and fell out of hand even once, it would break off. For those who think the keyboard would come in handy, I'm afraid it is just an inconvenience and added weight. The keys are too small to be a convenient alternative to a touch screen. Sadly, even the T-Mobile reps were encouraging me to keep the vibrant. They said that when froyo finally comes for the Vibrant, it would surpass the G2.
What I gathered from this is: The G2 was hyped up to be the ultimate superphone, but now after being out on the market for almost 2 weeks, it isn't so great anymore. When the people at T-Mobile are telling me to keep the Vibrant, I think that's a sign. And it has nothing to do with revenue either, because they wouldn't benefit at all from me keeping the vibrant or getting a G2. I'm assuming there have been plenty of complaints with the G2 by this point that perhaps its not as good as everyone thought it was going to be?
Had a good convo with the sales rep there, and we both agreed that since the Galaxy S is offered through multiple service providers, Samsung would take a HUGE hit if they failed to update to froyo and make the mistake they did with the Behold. As of right now the Galaxy is in, in fact, the largest money maker for Samsung, so if they drop the ball this time and everyone returns their phones or sells them. Return customers will be non-existent. For this reason, I am going to wait it out for the Froyo release They told me it should be the end of november and that it is already being testing on the captivate (which will likely get the update before the Vibrant). A month and a half isn't too long of a wait.
Either way, as you guys say, technology advances so fast that by this time next year, the Vibrant will be obsolete when it comes to hardware inside the phone, but since it's open-source it will probably be able to keep up with advancements in software.
I don't plan on rooting it because I don't need the headaches when it finally comes time for Froyo, and right now, the phone isn't lagging at all and it outperforms all my friends' phones (droid X, captivate, Evo, and HD2), so I'm very satisfied. When it comes down to it, I think the numbers and tech specs should be acknowledged, but not used to compare the phones. The only way to determine which phone is actually better is to have them both next to eachother, in a natural setting (one you would find yourself in every day) and run them both through normal phone things such as texting, web browsing, videos, etc. Doing this, in the town that I live in, where I spend most of my time, it was clear that the Vibrant was better for me.
Going off topic a little bit, I have had the T-Mobile screen protector on the phone and I notice that it kinda takes away from the beauty of the screena and it scratches easily. I stopped by the Zagg Invisible Shield booth in the shopping mall and the guy that worked there had a Vibrant with the protector on it. It definitely doesn't blur the screen as much and it covers the whole face rather than just the screen itself. But $16 for one protector seemed a little steep.. He said it had a lifetime warranty, so if it comes off or gets scraped/scratched I can "just bring it back in and have a new one put on for $5"... Doesnt really seem like a lifetime warranty to me.... Sorry for subject change but I thought I'd throw that out there, what is everyone using for screen protectors?
