FYI Teruten is a Korean software company, which specialises in DRM protected media products. Not sure what it's doing with Kies though.

I'm having the same issue since 1.53.10103_100 upgrade, possibly due to DRM media support but still very crap, also if you don't allow the changes the flash screen stays up until you kill the process
i love the galaxy s but don't think i'd buy samsung again build quality, support and updating leave a hell of a lot to be desired

Hi Folks - Just had my Galaxy S delivered today, installed Kies on a Sony Vaio Windows 7 64 Bit and cannot get past the Teruten wants to modify Hard Disk - just repeats & repeats whether I say Yes or No. Samsung Support is closed in UK. So Phone is unusable - great start to my Samsung experience. Any solutions out there??

Hi Andy-Roid. I have just spent an hour or more talking to Samsung Tech. They siad the issue was still having my Blackberry Ap on PC and did I have any iPhone apps installed. Deleted these as instructed, uninstalled and reinstalled Keis. Did check all Microsoft Updates and level of Windows Media Player as they requested - all up to the latest! But it did not cure the problem - escalated to a Supervisor? who said that I obviously had a problem with my PC and needed to get maintenance!!! I am arranging to return the Phone - Shame nice spec - but without PC Software its just a brick! BYE!

Strikes me that the whole Kies thing is bad. What does it give me, except:
I cant upgrade my phone without it (others manage fine, so I see this as a negative!).
It installs Teruten (I don't know why, therefore I consider it to be malware).
It gives me a pretty UI (erm, to do what exactly).
It lets me rip CDs (why???, this is software for my phone).
It lets me upload a picture from my PC to Flickr (why?).
On a Google phone they decide not to integrate with Picasa???
Remember this is for my phone!
It lets me tether my phone via a wacky interface.

Dear SAMSUNG, please please please drop this pile of junk (before it gets any bigger), and give me:
- Simple Tethering.
- Mass Storage device functionality.
- Over The Air upgrades.
That's about it! (Basically I want Android)

hi folks! this is my firs post here @ the forum ...
and i'm happy to tell you all that there is a solution to this problem - downloading kies_win.exe from samsungapps.com (here)
donno what's the difference between this version and the one from samsung.com, but i don't get any "teruten" messages or anything ... of course you need to uninstall the samsung.com version of kies before!
(i run win 7 64 on toshiba tecra and samsung galaxy s (froyo ver.) phone)

hope that helps! (it sure did for me)

Hi friends!
I found a solution to the problem, without needing to uninstall Kies. Type "msconfig" in the run space of the screen, and then enter the tab "Startup", find all entries with manufacturer Samsung (I found 2 of them) and deselect them. Then restart and the teruten program installation window does not appear again.

I'm new here and until yesterday, when I installed Kies, my Win7X64 was operating just fine. Today, it's a mess. Multiplying flashing warnings about Teruten making changes, Kaspersky reporting suspicious objects. Not fun. I tried an uninstall and was told I can't do it as the Kies program is running. I also tried a system restore and cannot do that being told my C: drive has bad sectors. All sounds very ominous to me and I'm really bummed.
