QUESTION!?
When i connect my phone via usb i can't seem to get both debugging mode and mass storage connections at the same time. i chose connect, and it connects, but debugging mode isn't present when i slide it down.. When i go into applications, development, debugging, it disconnects my device and still doesn't show the phone inn debugging.. what the hell am i doing wrong?

RGTWOLF: When you load the command prompt in windows, the first thing you need to type at the prompt is, "cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools" (without the quotes). That will get you into the directory to perform the rest of the commands. If you do not have that directory in your path, or are not in that directory, you will not be able to perform those commands and get the error you're getting.

Mass Storage and debugging mode do not work at the same time. Yu'll have to use one or the other, depending on what you are doing. If copying a file to the SDcard, use mass storage (turn off debugging). If using the adb shell, use debugging.
It's a real p.i.t.a. doing that, but it works.

When following the video (at the 5:30 mark) he has the lgnpst program and lgnpst general. On mine I just have the shortcut that I created. What did I miss?

When you initially download and unzip to your desktop you will have an icon for LGNPST.exe right click on it and select copy. Navigate now to c:\LG Electronics/LGNPST and right click in that folder and select paste. Now right click on that icon and select send to desktop to create a shortcut for it. You should be all set. I think you missed the initial copy/paste

I copied the original lgnpst and pasted to the c: drive lgnpst folder. I then sent it to the desktop for the shortcut, but I still get the message that says failed to load skin.dll.

Well I'm kind of a gear head and it looks a little complicated to me :(
I'm unclear on the actual delivered benefits of rooting the phone. I mean I was able to get that annoying extras thing to go away. I dumped a 16G SD card in it and I'll move most of my apps onto the card I guess but I don't really care if there's a little space wasted as long as the bloat apps aren't sucking power\clock cycles? Boingo is only annoying on rare occasion and is not worth an hour or two's work and the uncertainty of waking up Monday morning to an inoperative [hone to get rid of.
Will I be able to access the EVDO one a signal strength app I dl'ed swears it detects? I remember some time ago getting hints the Metro were going testing 3G in the SF Bay area. Will I be able to tether the phone as a modem? Are there any ULV drivers for this phone that might let me get better battery life?
At the end of the day, I have to decide if I downgrade to 2.2 and use what looks like a way fewer clicks path to root or if I'm somehow better served staying in 2.2.1 (My phone is old enough I think it probably shipped as 2.2 then updated itself) and using this complex path.

Hello all, i am new to the android platform but i am familiar with roms and customizing phones such as windows and iphone. i just wanted to say that this is a very helpful and it worked but idk if i did anything wrong or not...

when i got to the point of entering adb shell then su i got access denided and went back to the $ instead of the # and i had all the files on the sd card so just curious to know if i messed up or not lol. But on the optimus m on the terminal from the market it gave me supervisory access and went to # but i couldnt enter the commands in either terminal or pc terminal.

When you were typing on the pc su, did it pop up on the phone give su privileges?
I think it did on mine the first time I checked the box always and it never popped up again.

When I run LGNPST and plug in my phone, none of my information shows up on the program. The model shows up as unknown and the s/w version is ms690zv4. The version, file name, and compiled date are all blank.
In the instructions it says you need to move the model folder to the working folder, the LGPS... folder then it says you can delete all the files except 3 or 4. Then it says to register the .dll file if you did that exactly your info should show up.

As a complete noob to the android world this will be a first for me. I am not computer illiterate so I can follow directions pretty well. I have a question before I begin the root. What program or tool will I need to help make this happen flawlessly? I have heard ofcdma workshop. Is this one of them? If so where can I find it? I know these are true noob question's so please bare with me.

I registered the .dll file and it said registration successful, and I have my phone in USB debugging mode, but the information still isn't showing up.
