Changing the Lockscreen and Themes question

O.K. - First off, I'm a Mac user so doing these changes while synced to my computer are not possible (I think...).

1 - Last night, I put a background app on my Eris and downloaded a couple. Got the message just fine that they were saved to my SD card.

2 - This question in two parts...

A - Where the heck are they? I went to look for them in the settings area, and I can't find them in any "gallery." What am I doing wrong?

B - Once "found," how do I save them to a gallery that I can use to change the lockscreen background?

Again, I can't do this on a PC and rooting is not an option for me (one, I really don't know much about it, and two, I think you lose Sense UI which I like and don't want to get rid of).

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks.

P.S. - I can't seem to locate any files on my SD card. As a matter of fact, the only option shown in my settings for the SD card is "Unmount SD card." The Format SD Card is greyed, so it's not letting me choose it even if I wanted to. Is this a setting somewhere else?

the app you are using is backgrounds right? sd cards have cache issues and can be a pain.you need to refresh your card to see the saved files. best bet is too save them to favorites in the app...easier to find them there

Yes, the app is backgrounds... When you say "refresh your (sd) card..." How do I do that?

I really, really want to change the background on my lock screen! And I'm hoping like heck that we get the slide to lock/slide to silence screen that the Moto Droid has in the (pending) 2.x update. That's what's keeping me from downloading an App for it (plus I've read those apps are still kind of buggy).

I use an App called OI File Manager, I like it better than Astro.. you can use it to view all of your files in your SD card, and interact with them (view pics and set them as wallpapers, lock screens, or contact icons) and you can move, rename, and delete files as well.. You can do all of this with ASTRO as well, I just prefer OI File Manager, but either will do the trick

FINALLY! Thank you... I downloaded Astro and it's nice, but the long press only saved the picture as my background, but not to the lockscreen. OI worked.

For now, I think I'll keep both file managers until I figure out what I want to clean up. I don't think I need to keep both.

my bad i thought you were saving to use as wallpapers. i was mobile and skimming through posts.

yes, like the others said, get a file manager installed, it is better at reading your sd card.

I see the barcode in the other post... what's it for?

You can download a scanner app like the appropriately named Barcode Scanner and it will read these barcodes. Most of the ones we use will take you to an app in the market. It comes in hand on sites like Androlib where you can find apps and jump straight to them in the market on your phone. Other people use them for their contact info or links to websites.

For example:

Thanks. I have the barcode scanner, but I didn't know what the "QR" stood for. Perhaps "quick reference?"
