Okay...had to touch me some RAZR. It is very thin compared to Bionic. Fast and light. Nicer than I expected. Did not get hot after 5 minutes of working it. Screen was not green at all. Pixilated if you looked really, really close.

Asked about the GN. Without hesitation, guy said the 28th. Would not tell me how he knew that. But did say that he could be wrong.

Resound nor display anywhere to be found.

I think you are downplaying this a bit because you obviously have a slight bias. The truth of the matter is as nj and EarlyMon said, Kevlar is very strong insulator, which means very nearly all of the heat generated by the device will have to escape from the front (sides will be negligible because of how small their surface area is) through the screen. On my Incredible, while tethering and overclocking, could push 43-45 degrees Celsius, but given that the plastic back is not as great of an insulator as the Kevlar on the RAZR, heat can escape from all areas on the phone instead of being concentrated just to the front, making it much cooler to the touch than a 43-45 degree RAZR.

It's possible that some may be downplaying the heat issues with the RAZR while others may be exaggerating them. The fact is that until these phones get into the hands of people everything we say about them is conjecture and opinion. And we all know what that's worth!

Considering the ramifications of an extremely hot phone, there is likely no way that they are going to knowingly allow potential burning phones to get to the public. Why? Because it costs them lots of money! If these phones are potentially burn unit hot, then they get to deal with multiple law suits from customers. Beyond that it would likely cost them in having to replace untold numbers of these phones once they make it into the field.

Verizon is here to make money (not to play cell phone lending library). We, on the other hand, are here to get intel on new high tech gadgets that look cool, perform well, and ultimately make us happy! :D

What was your feel for the screen clarity/resolution/etc?

Pentile matrix was evident on the homescreen icons text. Something with the white and dark background made pixelation evident. Lighter background seemed to ease the pixelation. On Menus, web etc its not noticable. Battery does not show pixelation.

Screen is not bright and saturation is beautiful. Its not as hyper saturated as the Charge or sgsII so some may view that as a negative but for me I actually prefer less saturation.

Dimming the screen all the way is not advisable. It looks terrible (nobody would dim it all the way down but its worth mentioning)

I rate the screen just below the Charge and SGSII because of the text under the icons exposing the pentile matrix.

The bad thoughts are creeping in again! (Help me, BB!! :D) Like "Do I really need a 720p screen right now? They'll be better in 2 years when I upgrade again!" Mind you, Google will probably be close to releasing Lollipop or something by then and a new Nexus will declare 1080p the standard and make the Galaxy Note look like nothing. Obviously, no phone is perfect. Most miss at least one little thing to keep it from perfection. (In GNex's case, an sd slot and actual release date). I'm with many of you in that waiting would be much easier if we at least had a firm date to look forward to as opposed to the hazy fog we're trying to look through now, hoping to catch a glimpse of something. Additionally, I'm not one to buy a phone then just return it within 14 days unless I really have a problem with it. I don't believe in needlessly creating a refurb device that's in perfect working order. This leads to the other problem of choosing a phone for now to get me by until the GNex comes: paying the non-subsidized price. And my wife's upgrade isn't til July. Even worse, she's not a big smartphone user (prefers her Octane) and she'd never use a phone without a physical keyboard. (I almost got her to keep an LG Ally, but that didn't last beyond 4 days). The funny thing is that I wouldn't even consider the GNex if it didn't have a docking option. Droid 1 & 2 spoiled me with that function and notification LEDs, so I can't go back to any phone which lacks those. (Dammit, now I'm starting to ramble). As you can see, this waiting game is obviously starting to get to me. Thankfully, I've got a forum full of supportive people here who know exactly how I feel and share the pain. (And thankfully work has been dead the last few days, giving me time to lurk from there lately). I'm used to waiting on unreleased laptops driving me crazy, but now I use my phone pretty much like one anyway. Evidenced by the fact that, 2 weeks into my billing cycle, a Verizon rep told me I'd only used 9 minutes of voice so far. Curse my IT career! Ignorance does have that element of bliss when it comes to just picking the nearest shiny thing that makes a user happy, but I need my research and to get the best I can within my means. Great. Not even held the phone yet and now I've got GNex withdrawal after having had to force myself to put a RAZR down this past Saturday as it is. *sigh* I need a drink...

Haha I'm by no means thinking that Moto or Verizon would release a phone that could actually burn people, but I think it's unrealistic to think this phone will run as cool as older devices up to this point. It's just not physically possible.

Having such a thin phone your bound to have some heat issues, the battery is essentially pressed against the back of the screen. A theory of the back being cooler to the touch may be the carbon fiber might be a better insulator against heat. I would hope the heat doesn't eventually cause heat spots on the screen.

Sorry all, didn't have time to read through what I missed today, but am I the only one that won't buy the GN if it's only available web only? I just can't imagine myself making this sort of purchase and 2 year commitment without holding the darn thing first. Just curious what y'all think about this...

I've bought all my phones from the web, and I'll most likely end up buying the GN from the web either way as well, so it doesn't really affect me so much.

screen resolution and clarity were beautiful. It was so nice that I was wondering what the gnex would be as it has a higher resolution. The speed was good.. but when I did a quadrant on the hot one, it came back less than 2000. Strange, I thought.

when i get my Nexus, how do i not have all my apps automatically download when i log into google ? current phone is X. i have alot of garbage that i dont want on my new phone. when i sbf'd my x from scratch alot of old apps auto loaded back onto phone and i dont want that to do that on my Nexus...

also, how do we know which apps will work on the new ICS Os ? should everything that works for Gingerbread also work on ICS?

It's very likely that the RAZR handset will run warmer. Energy gets converted into heat and heat has to go somewhere. If the temp makes it to around 40-42 degrees Celsius I personally would not have a problem with it. But then again given where I live summertime temps can get up to almost 50 degrees Celsius...

But we may be up-playing it with the other bias. As Steven pointed out - one phone had the issue, one did not, so one might have been defective.

We'll soon know.

How familiar is anyone with google wallet here. This is one feature I am interested in just for the convienence of it. Do you have to have a Citi account or one of their partner accounts or am I correct that they are going to tie in with PayPal?

You can also use a Google prepaid card. At least that was my understanding. http://www.google.com/wallet/faq.html

Friends don't let friends believe Quadrant on dual-core phone.

I've been with Verizon long enough to see some botched launches but in this case it might be bigger than that. With rumors of the UK launch being delayed, it could all go back to Google holding this back.

Yes, you are very correct. But that doesn't mean that it's not frustrating that the phone is out there and supposed to be available "Sometime in November" according to Google/Samsung.

I can't speak for everyone but that's what bothers me most is that there's even that possibility that this thing may just release December 31st just so Verizon can... well be Verizon.[/QUOTE]

Turn off automatically restore apps in the privacy section of the settings.

Nobody is claiming it runs cooler than older devices. We are saying that Stevens experience is not normal. if it was I and others (reviewers who spent way more time on it than me) would have caught it right away.

All these phones will get very warm. All those radios and processing power packed into a handheld is quite a technological marvel. Whether one likes the device or not the RAZR is an insane package.

Nothing exists like it right now. Not talking specs Im talking about how insanely thin and powerful this thing is. Its quite an achievement

Nope, you're not alone. No way am I buying sight unseen/unheld. Build and call quality are becoming increasingly more important as these devices get faster and better and have more features. I gotta check it out for myself. Hopefully Best Buy and/or Price Club have them even if VZW doesn't.

Friends,

Understand this. The only official word we have from Verizon is that the Galaxy Nexus will come out on Verizon before the end of the year. That's it. Everything else is rumor and speculation. Just because it makes internet tech gossip pages doesn't mean that it's real.

Therefore, as far as Verizon is concerned, there is no delay. The world "delay" cannot apply to a time frame that did not originate from Verizon. The only time frame they gave is the one they are sticking to. It's a wide margin of nearly two months.

Do I want the phone? Yes. Would I like the rumors given by The Source and other sources to be true. Yes, of course. Is it incumbent upon Verizon to live up to the rumors that sources leaked to the internet. Definitely not.

Conclusion. Verizon, thus far, is living up to their word. We have the right to be unhappy about it, but we don't have the right to accuse them of delaying and get all full of righteous indignation. There is none to be had. They did nothing wrong.

They have to protect their interests as well as, yes, believe it or not, ours. Their interest would be to sell as many Verizon bloated phones as possible and ours would be that they get the firmware as smooth and hassle free as possible. It is, after all, a fresh release of an entirely new operating system.

Mangia bene.

I understand what you're saying but I don't entirely agree. I agree Verizon has not lied to us. With no official word they made no promises.

I do feel the phone has been delayed. My opinion. The other option as I see it is they (or Samsung or Google) have botched the release horribly. If it's because they had to stagger the releases of the three phones then who ever planned this is incompetent and ought to be disciplied. Why on earth would you release three high end phones in the same month or even the same quarter? No matter how they stagger these, they compete with each other. That makes no sense.

Verizon passed on the Galaxy Whatever because it was too similar to the GNex. OK. How about the RAZR and Rezound? Could the specs be more similar to the Gnex and each other? They probably should have passed on one or two of the three. But they committed and are trying to make the best of it (to our frustration).

Continuing on the botched theme, as mentioned in various articles and said by myself and others in several threads, you don't announce then sit on a product; you strike while the iron is hot. Apple will ALWAYS win because they cover everything top to bottom. It hurts me to say that but as an engineer I try to keep an open mind. How did the 4s cycle go? They announced with a silly amount of hyberbole then in the same breath said, preorder next week and you'll have it in 2. Boom, done. They released a phone which was barely an improvement on their pervious iteraton and had the greatest launch in their history.

Google hadn't even had Verizon completely lined up when they announced the GNex as proven by V not even being mentioned on Announce Day (which allegedly got delay because Steve passed though that didn't slow down the RAZR announcement). That just doesn't sit right with me, though some of the infighting rumors offer plausable explanations.

Compared to the iPhone4s release, this is a complete disaster.

Now I realize you can't hear my tone in this discussion so understand that while I disagree, I'm not angry or being argumentative. I feel this is a friendly debate. I'm certainly frustrated with Verizon, Google and Samsung but not attacking the information we've received nor anyone on this forum.
