Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Ohhhh, I missed that somewhere. Thanks for reiterating. Its a little tighter fit and I think I will probably order a spare back just in case the slight strain wears it out some.

That's what she said

Yeah I kind of had to go with the standard back..I have 2 TPU cases, and the one that I like more didn't fit right with the extended cover on it. It was so squeezed in there that the volume rockers were being pushed in. I think it should be fine for a long time.

Well I am still torn here, but maybe I can get some suggestions from you guys. I have been doing pretty much nothing but complaining about my reception...Do you guys think I should just wait it out till updates? Or go back to VZW and see if it is my unit? Waiting till an update is something I suppose I can do, but I know that 4.1 probably won't be coming for another couple months...it is just beyond frustrating not being able to make phone calls in my own house.

I would try to take it back and at the least get a new SIM card. I was complaining about the T-Bolt's radio forever, and other folks have been complaining about the GNEX saying it's worse. But my GNex has been getting terrific constant 4G coverage even in my house (where the T-Bolt wouldn't get a 4g signal at all).

I've begun to think that there are hardware and/or sim implementation issues in these LTE phones, and so while I previously just chalked it up to the network, I now think that you should definitely try a new sim and/or new phone because it definitely works on mine way better than I hoped.

I never wanted to hassle with going back to the store or swapping phones, but now that I have one that works I would say it's worth trying. good luck.

I installed the Google wallet apk this morning and added $50 from my amex with no problem.

Hey guys a few things:

First I love my phone. I have had little to no trouble with battery life. It's at least as good if not better than my Dinc battery life and I haven't even rooted yet.

Second, my only complaint is the touch tones do not work to make a selection when calling customer care at Verizon Wireless, Time Warner Cable, etc. You can press til your heart is content but it never recognizes it.

Third, I installed the Google Wallet .apk Found Here. It installed and activated easy enough even giving me $10 on the prepaid card. I tried to add $100 to the card as well. It withdrew it from my bank account but immediately refunded it. Anyone else want to give it a try?

Finally, I can't believe that I'm seeing people return this phone already. What's the rush? We waited 90+ days for the phone. Begging and pleading with anyone that would listen to give it to us "even with bugs" and we'd be happy. Now, due to some "sub par" battery life (allegedly) they are returning it without even giving it 30 days.

Can you guys do me a favor?

Can you swipe down the notification bar, touch on settings, then tap Display?

When you tap Display, is there a noticeable or significant lag?

For the most part, all of the settings on my phone take around one second from tap to displaying the menu.

Check out this video of someone playing with the settings menu. It's in line with my phone.

I don't want to take it in again if I'm just overreacting.

TIA

About half a second-ish for all of the options on my phone. Not sure if I'd call it lag or not. More of a 'transition' I'd say.

Okay guys, I'm at Verizon again, waiting for my guy to get freed up.

I just compared the white on apple.com to the HTC device's, and I've got to say that there is a HUGE difference.

Objectively speaking, the display quality on the HTC is a million times better than our baby.

So disappointing!

Is it the pentile?

Well i think I'll be installing the google wallet app today! Seems like a good excuse to reactivate my best buy master card no? ;)

im loving google wallet so far. peoples reactions are great. I actually had a customer switch from AT&T iphone4 to a galaxy nexus after seeing what my phone can do. I went to cvs to buy some snacks and got the the register and unlocked the phone with my face then paid with google wallet. that got the cashier and person behind me asking questions, so I grab something else and show them how it works again, now theres 3 other people looking at it :p

Yeah that's what I thought, but I have seen a lot of people getting spotty reception and have heard Samsung's radios are just sub par.

I talked to a lady from tech support Thursday night about it and she said someone would call me back with further info of what to do because she thought it may be my device as well, but nobody ever called back :(

I'm sure someone's mentioned this already.. but don't rely on the signal bars in the notification bar.. it seems to be under reporting signal strength. Check the signal in the about phone, status panel.

That being said, from your posts it really sounds like you might have a defective one. My offices are in a mix of 3G and 4G areas.. so far, I have been getting pretty good results using the Gnex as a phone and have had no issues hooking into my wireless networks. But Verizon's coverage in northern Virginia is pretty damn good.

Google Wallet installed fine and I was able to load additional money fine - now has anyone actually used it? :D

Yes, I used it at my local WAWA. It worked great.
Just load the app and touch the back of the GNex to the pay terminal and your GNex will give a tone in about 2 seconds that it has paid.

AWESOME.......................:)

That's awesome! I just added the prepaid card. I feel kinda cool :)

Edit: I love that I can put a few gift cards on it too! I always seem to get Macys ones but forget them at home, hard to forget my phone ;)

If you're just comparing whites, then it's the nature of the tech diff. LCD will have brighter whites than AMOLED. But that doesn't mean the display quality is "a million times better."

Where AMOLED shines is black levels, which gives it the higher contrast ratio for that pop and 3D effect (when not looking at solid white pages). And it will have more vibrant (ie. oversaturated) colors; whether you like the more vibrant colors is a personal preference.

What you say may be true, but since I won't be comparing my phone to others it really won't bother me. It looks great by itself and I can see it WAY better in the sunlight than my thunderbolt, that's enough for me :)
