how do you reset android OS if it crash ?

Welcome to Android Forums! :)

how can an android OS be reset to factory default if it crash ?

Because Android runs on top of a Linux kernel the OS rarely "crashes". If an app falls over Android "force-closes" it and the worst that usually happens is that the Launcher may reload. If something goes so wrong that the system freezes, simply removing the battery then restarting will reboot the device normally. That's the Android equivalent of CTRL+ALT+DEL! :)

However, there is an option in the Settings/Privacy menu to "factory data reset" the device, which wipes all data on the internal device memory and returns it to an out-of-the-box condition. As this deletes any apps you have installed, as well as user data such as contacts, emails, SMS etc it's only something to be done as a last resort.

Recovering to stock is called SBF when working with roms etc, check it out!

When you "brick" your phone, you can almost always unbrick it, I have done it MULTIPLE times and have brought it back to working just like before.

if this helps, dont forget the thanks button!

what do you mean working with roms? I am not familiar with this term.

I think he mean't how to reset the phone, like we do in outs PCs when Windows freezes.

You can eitehr remove the battery, or press and hold HOME + POWER buttons for like 5 seconds, and it reboots.

You choose...
I think you are correct, and if he isn't rooting, about the only problem that couldn't be fixed by this method would be side loading an app with malware.

If (...when;)) he gets to the rooting and loading roms, he will have plenty of resources and probably the skill to fix just about anything. Especially on a Nexus as you don't have to circumvent road blocks (i.e. loacked bootloaders).
