Pre-ordered!

I've been reading the rumours about the Sony Hayabusa in June/July. I'm think I'm still going to get the Xperia S.

The problem with phones is that there's always a new one on the horizon. If I waited for that I'm sure between now and then another phone will be announced as coming soon so by the time the Hayabusa is released I'd be waiting for the next big thing. You end up constantly changing your mind, waiting, changing your mind, waiting, etc. You'll never actually get a new phone!

Does anyone know if I buy the phone on a 3 contract through buymobiles, will it be locked and if so unlockable? My only memory of 3 is when you couldn't unlock their handsets years ago.

Cheers

Edit: You can

Any phone on 3 can be unlocked for a charge, but they will require you to pay the full terms of the contract (24 months) before they do. It would be cheaper just buying sim free. If you bought it from 3 as a payg then I believe they simply charge

On the 3 contract it says soon, on the others I think it says the 13/14 can't remember exactly which date.

Jeez it didn't say that you had to pay all the contract up front on 3's site!

If you have a contract then you need to abide by that contract and pay its full term, you maybe able to get it unlocked but you would still need to continue paying the monthly fee. If its 24 months then you have to pay for 24 months or pay it all in one lump sum.

I see no point in buying on contract then having it unlocked? On payg yes, but not contract.

Well I tend to get bored after a year or so, what I tend to do is sell on the mobile unlocked and buy the latest smartphone sim free/payg model for the remainder of the contract, I guess a few people do it this way to avoid the initial large outlay just for the phone itself.

Yup,

I done that once, you end up paying more still but you don't really notice as its spread out.

I now stick with 3 and buy sim free every year now and just swap the sim to the new phone. Been with 3, 3 years now. :D
