Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Have fun! I'm probably one of the few people that finds car shopping fun (don't ask me why). As a four-time Toyota owner, I just traded in my Camry a few weeks ago and bought a Hyundai. So far, I'm really happy with it, and it was priced comparably to the Toyotas and Hondas, but with more options, so I was actually able to get a nicer car for the same $$. And a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty doesn't hurt either!

Hyundai makes excellent cars. They have come a long way in a very short time and is probably the best bang-for-your-buck out there.

I both like and dread car shopping at the same time. I don't like the back-and-forth but a car is a big purchase so that part is always fun. Our cars are paid for and this is the first time in a long time we haven't had a car payment. However, we are in a unique position to where we can afford a car payment, since almost everything else is paid for. The Mini actually holds its value quite well, surprisingly enough. We have a very specific number we're willing to finance for 3 years, and not a penny more (our goal is to pay it off in about half the time). As long as the Honda dealer gives us enough for the trade-in, and/or drops enough off the price of the car, we'll probably go for it. We have the advantage that we don't need the new car, so if our conditions aren't met, we'll walk away. We have the upper hand/advantage - at least we like to think we do.

Good morning Gnexers! :D

@Captain Ron: Let me know when you're up & running JB and what you think. The rest of you still on ICS... you have a great upgrade coming to you!

First attempt not so good. I'm going to wipe and try again tomorrow morning. I may have rushed the installation process so I'll take it slower when I have more time.

It ain't much better in eastern NC - 96.8F, 50% humidity, "feels like" 109F. We hatests the summer, yes we do Precious....

I grew up in Fayetteville, and while I miss friends back home I definitely do not miss the heat. Anything above 70 and I'm miserable! However, I seriously miss the severe thunder and lightening storms.... but now that I'm in Illinois I get to see more of em (call me crazy, but severe storms/tornados fascinate me). I recently spent many years on the west coast where the weather is very mild (a light drizzle and those people were freaking out about the "downpour").

Cool, dark, overcast, dreary, wet, and icky. That's my kind of weather!

Captain Ron:

Some have reported that CWM - especially if the wipe is run through Rom Manager - doesn't quite wipe everything... leaving ICS remnants that might conflict with JB installation.

I would recommend that you Google a zip called "Android Revolution HD Super Wipe". While there are several Super Wipes out there, I can only vouch for this one. In one flash, it FORMATS /data, /cache, /Dalvik, and /system. It completely wipes every bit away.

Here'e my procedure for flashing Jelly Belly:

Make a nandroid of ICS, and then copy EVERYTHING YOU OWN to the PC as a backup... including your backups!

Boot into ClockworkMod from power-down.
Flash Super Wipe
Flash Jelly Belly 1.9
Flash gapps (I prefer the 7-1-2012 version)
Reboot.

Set up Android and stabilize the system.
If you want add-ons ( and you do ;) ):

Power down the phone.
Boot into ClockworkMod from power-down.
Wipe cache and Dalvik
Flash 1% Circle Battery Mod
Flash Power Menu Reboot Mod
WIPE DALVIK CACHE AGAIN AFTER FLASHING!
Reboot.

Enjoy.

If you want any OTHER Mods, flash them in another CWM session. You don't want to flash them all at once.

I used to use iGoogle all the time - can't believe its shutting down.

In other (better) news, did a first run of my shell script in our QA environment today and it worked successfully. 12 different code deployments, taken care of by one automated script is so much easier than doing these manually. I can't wait until the whole process is fully automated and built into our ticketing system. Feels real awesome to have accomplished this. 450 lines of code in the main script and ~140 in each of the additional 7 scripts the main one calls.

I wiped and installed via recovery, but I'll try super wipe and follow your steps. I see JB2.2 is up, but you're still recommending 1.9?

Captain Ron, I would not recommend anything that new & unproven unless you really have time to experiment on the bleeding edge. I need a PHONE so I want something tested and verified to work on 99% of phones.

Until I see no issues (or very few) on 2.2 in the Rootzwiki forum, I recommend 1.9 :)

Chief,

Well, since my first attempt last night was buggy, I'll go with your advice and stick with 1.9 for now.

Cap't Ron:

Jbdan is our guinea pig for Jelly Belly 2.2. So far, so good: flashed okay, booted up fast, GPS locked in seconds, things are looking good!

But he recommends that we wait about 24 hours until we know it's stable and things work.

And he says "hi" to you personally :)

EDIT: WHOOT! I just got an e-mail from Verizon... my Darling Bride's SGS3 has shipped and it'll be here tomorrow! :D :D :D :D

Then comes the 2 years of teaching her how to use it

I love her, ya know... she's just technologically impaired. Big Time.

Putting puzzle pieces together here. Google said they would push an update to address this to all Galaxy Nexus devices regardless of carrier. Said update will be pushed within the next week. Today they announce that new Nexus would be sold with Jellybean in order to comply with the patent ruling and resume shipping in the next week.

So I'm reading this as JB is going to be pushed to all nexus within the next week regardless of carrier. Maybe I am overthinking it, but I can dream, right.

Well the only phones Google has control over are the unlocked ones in the Play store. So I'm thinking it only goes out to those next week. On the bright side Verizon will be forced to rush the update for once or else face their own sales ban.

You know, folks, this whole "universal search" thing is way overrated for me. It'll still search fine off-phone... it's the on-phone search that will be disabled.

I don't know about you, but I have never used search to find a contact or a song or a movie. I use the apps for that. So I ain't gonna miss a thing.

Are you? Is it really that catastrophic?

I rarely use search at all, so it doesn't bother me a bit :D

Hey y'all!

Would like to start by saying: OMGosh!

I have been busy!

Just found out that I will be promoted to Store Manger within five weeks!

On top of that, my SM is on vacation for the next two weeks. And this promo is a huge launch! Support SBUX Refreshers if you can! LOL!

Tried Jelly Bean but went back to AOKP only because I need my phone to be disaster free as I will be working insane hours for the next month.

Ordered my first tablet, Nexus 7 16GB, and am dying to use it for work (schedule organization/portability) and play (I live root!).

Miss y'all!

BB: Super jealous I am not on that cruise!

Chief: Glad you are having fun with root...it's fun, huh?

Everyone else, too tired to remember the last 5 pages to say something relevant.

Just got done merging a thread, reporting, and other guidely things...been slacking cos of work. Love y'all.

jmar

Congrats on the promotion jmar!! That is a great thing!

I can't believe I just heard a commercial for back to school.:banghead:

The craft store has Thanksgiving out already.

Heh Heh I can't help but think that BB's out sipping umbrella drinks on the sun deck thinking she's got us beat. And when she gets back she'll probably be the only Gnexer left in here that hasn't been running Jelly Bean forever :p

I'm not sure I am missing ALL that much.

Nope, I'll be right there with her. Still holding out for AOKP or Liquid to take a crack at JB. As tempted as I am, I don't have time for some of the problems I've read about people having.

The M&M's are an excellent reason to see it. But let us not distract ourselves from Channing Tatum. The boy has moves. The only problem I had with the movie is that there was too much plot and talking, not quite enough half naked men dancing. But that's just me.

I don't have time or inclination to set everything up again right now.

And I can't wait to see the movie on Saturday!

I watched The Amazing Spider-Man today. It was...wait for it...AMAZING! HA HA! Yeah, I said it :D

I like Sam Rami's versions, except the third one, but this one is much better.

I'm going to see this next week with DSB!

Thanks Pup! I had a good trip and still not home, but it's great to be back in the USA for the 4th. It's been brutal traveling through Amsterdam, Nice, Florence and Paris. :)
Oh, wait, a tear for you.....:p:D

Verizon rushing an update is dangerous in my opinion but they are pretty dangerous without being forced to do anything so I guess it's 6 of one/half dozen of another.

I'm back! Had a great time. Can't wait to do another one. I see you all behaved and we have some new friends in the Watering Hole. Hope everyone had a great 4th and have stayed cool in this awful heat.

So I am rather annoyed right now. After using my laptop to pay all my bills, I leave to get a printer cartridge. Upon returning, my internet is down. Yeah I can tether my lappy, but I can't watch Netflix without tethering to my PS3. Meanwhile, I also need to get some work down and need an internet connection, but again with the tethering. I don't want my Nexus to blow up while the whole house uses my phone as an internet hotspot. Seriously frustrated!
