i have relatives in PA (not amish) that had these till around late 1990'S, no running water or electricity. and used coal for heat and cooking, with a coal shute to the basement where they delivered it to.
I've used a few when growing up and we would visit relatives down South! I'm sure glad those days are over...

Now that looks just like the Xilinhot Bus Station toilet/washrooms.

I just spent a holiday in a grasslands village staying with friends, it's just like that there. They have electricity sometimes when they need it, which comes from a generator and the water comes from a well. Coal, wood or dried sheep manure for cooking and heatng in the winter.

Growing up we had one of those (and an outdoor shower made from wooden pallets and rubber mats from a printing press) until I was in middle school (late 80s).

Morse code machine/telegraph

We didn't have a phone until I was in 4th or 5th grade, before that we had an intercom between our house and my uncles (1/8th of a mile away) and used Morse code on it.
i never had an outhouse but family in pa did. and never had cable till 2000's when i moved to fla. got my first cell in 2009 and was born in the 60's.

the telegraph, i thought i'd put up for fun and my neighbors in ct had party lines.

Oddly enough, I had one of these hanging in the kitchen as a child. No.. I'm old but not that old. My father loved antiques and wired one of his purchases into the bell system. You could not make a call on it but you could answer a call.
Our real phone looked very similar to this model and it set on a shelf in the hall. You had to stand there to talk.
