Root New Maps 4.3 "update unsuccessful" BB .2.1

Before I try it, are you still having it dump settings on reboot? I may hang out with 4.2 if maps resets each time....

Yes, every time I turn off or reboot, when I start maps it starts with the 'What's New' screen and my labs choices are reset. However, this happened with v4.2 also. Maybe it's just the rom I'm using (see sig.). Sure would like to get a froyo rom that's more stable.

I don't think many people are using the Team Chaos ROM, but just wanted to note i have the same issue on that ROM.

Didn't try the solution in post 22, but did try simply renaming 4.2 Maps.apk ->Maps.apk.back, copying the 4.3 Maps.apk to system/app, setting permissions correctly, and rebooting, and Maps didn't show up as an available application in the Apps tray. Deleted the 4.3 Apk, renamed my 4.2 Maps.apk back to normal and it shows/runs as expected.

Please, please, Google, release the freakin' source so Cyanogen/Koush can make a real ROM!! :D

My only problem with the new Maps 4.3 is that after every reboot or shutdown, it is like I'm going into maps for the first time and I have to choose the location button from Labs again. Anyone else experience this?

My update went just fine, installed and running smoothly. However I'm experiencing the exact same thing you are in the above quote. I believe it was happening to me on 4.2 also though.

I went with birdmans 06 froyo rom and it came without google maps. That allowed me to install it from the market without a single problem. An bridmans rom don't have the reboot problem that BB does right now;)

Tried that ROM, looked great for a few minutes, and then I went into endless boot loops...hadn't changed anything on it. Funny how these things go across Droids. :)

I know, i ran birdmans today and talked most of the day, and listened to music the rest. and still have about 40% battery left. When i say music, it was local music, not streamed.;)

I was having a maps issue also. I downloaded johnlgalt's maps.zip from post #7 in this thread, unzipped and copied Maps.apk to the sdcard. Then I used these commands in Terminal Emulator:

su
sysrw
mv /system/app/Maps.apk /system/app/Maps.apk.bak
busybox cp /sdcard/Maps.apk /system/app/
sync
reboot

Make sure you capitalize Maps, it matters. After the reboot, I went to the market and chose downloads and the 4.3 update for Maps was there. It installed just fine. My only problem with the new Maps 4.3 is that after every reboot or shutdown, it is like I'm going into maps for the first time and I have to choose the location button from Labs again. I am so frustrated! I have started with a completely clean install by wiping data, cache, and formatting boot and system in order to solve this problem; no luck. Still trouble with maps.

Sooo, I tried the instruction for removing maps.apk from system/app using both Root Explorer and Terminal Emulator and I can't remove it. Both methods tell me that "maps.apk cannot be deleted because file system is read-only". I tried changing properties and permissions...same message. Any hints on what I can try now? I've spent the better part of a day trying to get maps to update and I really rather just use a ROM that works.
