For the past two nights when I plug in my incredible the orange light flashes for a few seconds then goes steady. Does anyone know why? Has anyone had this happen to them?

    I'll be where I'm at!
Before anyone can answer that, we would need answers to a few questions:

    1. Are you rooted and running a custom ROM?
    2. What charging method are you using?
    3. Are you supplying the proper voltage supply to charge the device?

That has happened to me only a couple of times. I was using the slingplayer and had the phone charging from a computer USB. A battery pull fixed it each time. I think the battery just got too hot for some unknown reason.

had the phone off both times
just a verizon home charger that I have used multiple times before.

Both times did happen right after I got done using it for a while.

Mine blinks for a few seconds when charging if the battery level is below 5%(approximately) and the phone is off

Edit: it might actually blink for a few seconds when charging(if off) no matter the battery state, just that the only time my phone is off is because it ran out of battery.

I had mine flash constantly when I was using my phone as a GPS for an extended period of time. I shut the screen off for a bit and it stopped. I just assumed it was my phone telling me it was overheating.
