Help Handcent and battery help

I downloaded the handcent, and then sent a message but all it did was send the message 2 times. Once using the hero's installed app. and the 2nd using handcent. It never asked me wich app i want to use, and i cant click on the default thing in the apps mangr(the button is there it is just not highlighted, and I cant click it). Any suggestions? My battery life is horrible, and I have to charge my phone 3-4 times a day at least. Thanks for any help.

You have to diasable the stock messaging app first. Go into stock messaging app, press menu, settings, uncheck auto-retrieve, notifications
