I could compile it with that value but the next available multiplier gives you 729600 meaning you can't run this chip ay 700 to my knowledge.

More likely, the difference is in the processors. I'm guessing that if the Prevail runs 800 stock, it's packing a much better CPU than the Optimus. Not only that, but overclocked CPUs usually don't run as fast or efficient as a CPU runing the same speed natively.

I'll be picking up a Nook Color tomorrow (hopefully) that runs 800 stock; apparently they run stable at 1.2 GHz. :D

You have the numbers I posted backwards. in the set cpu bench lower is better.

It means it took less time to do the same work.

Also they use the same processor. msm7627 for the optimus and msm7627-3 for the prevail. I dont know why the -3 I bet its higher quality control for faster clocks. considering at 800mhz the optimus is about played out I doubt the prevail can overclock too far.
Any one (reppard) know if overclocking the optimus also overclocks the rest of the system? If that is the case I do understand why that 6mhz allows such higher scores.

reppard, what happens when the Dalvik cache maxes out? Could that be causing the crash? Two things I noticed consistently between stock 2.2.1 and CM7:

When my crashes would start using rOCK v.3, it would boot and crash again within moments, and only clearing the Dalvik cache would buy me another hour or two.

When wiping the Dalvik cache after one of the crashes, it would take about 10-15 seconds for the wipe to complete. Normally when just flashing a different ROM or other flashable zips, or even during testing, wiping this would take just a second or two.

You obviously have a better understanding than I do about this, do you think there's any relation there?

Well then that's pretty awesome. :)

Where is your dalvik cache located? Are you making use of a2sd functionality with a ext3 partition?

anyrom works great for me on cm7

So Reppard, even if you compiled the Kernel With the default max speed set at 700 the phone would automatically skip it and go to 729.6 anyway?

That would suck... it would mean my phone wont be able to overclock even a little.

I'm not sure, exactly. I did set up the ext3 partition, though.

Well got the r.o.c.k. up and running smoothly! Running stable at 806 like others. no real issues except it seems it takes a bit longer to boot for some reason, other than that it runs snappy great job reppard!

@ Nightangel79. My apologies! Just got a little annoyed at someone making demands but I could have acted more mature about the situation. Thanks for keeping the thread clean.

  12. I told you this last night. this arm6 can run at 600 and 729.

You can't just scale an arm chip to whatever you want.

Running Sense ROM and just flashed the Kernel, although I had to change r.O.C.K. to Rock because recovery didn't see it.
    So far:
    Dolphin Browser HD crashes
    Flight Director won't load
Groupon app just caused a reboot.
    Running at:

Changed to 729 and it's pretty stable so far.
    Linux version (root@asus) (gcc version 4.4.0 (GCC) ) #4 PREEMPT Sat Jun 4 09:47:07 EDT 2011
    Battery Temp: 27.0

I just installed the kernel on the Sense ROM. I don't have the apps that Jabba mentioned so I can't test those. But I can't seem to get the camera to work with any cpu freq. The only other problem I've run into so far is that Angry Birds Rio spontaneously shuts down, but that was at 806mHz :)
Everything else seems to be holding quite nicely at 806. I'll keep messing with stuff when I get the chance.

If yours is like mine, which it seems to be the phone works well at 806mhz it is stable but the temps start spiking and that is what causes the reboot.

That is what I have determined in my limited testing so far.
I run at 787 with no problem, and so far no reboots.
  16. If your temps spike and it reboots you were NOT stable. And honestly the stress test running for some time does not guarantee stability. My phone runs at 748 well, most apps work perfect, market crashes out a lot and google maps will cause a reboot after several minutes, stress test will run for hours with no failure.

I haven't had any crashes at all no matter how hard I try at 729.

I'm sure my phone being in 85-90 degree ambient temps is limiting the upper end for me.

Thanks new optimus. I've been doing the Stress test at 806mHz for almost an hour straight now with no hiccups. Don't know how high the battery temp is getting as the test is still running, but I'll test that tonight by running some games that heat up my battery.

somedood is correct if it is causing too high of temps it is not stable, however I never had a problem running any apps and I ran the setcpu stress test for 73 min with no problem. It was just extended time that caused the temp to spike. Though to be honest I am unsure if temp spike is the true culprit because according to setcpu the temp was 30C which did not seem too excessive.
  19. There are some oddities with this rom and kernel right now. I have a feeling when they get worked out most of us will be able to clock at or near 806.

It seems like whatever is making it so certain apps must be on phone to run is related to certain apps not running at all at higher clock speeds or just FC'ing. I think we can work on the apps FC'ing, its the reboot that says you went to far.

Google maps is the only thing I have found to reboot my phone at 748. at 768 a couple apps dont work and maps crashes the phone almost instantly. Both speeds the burn in test runs for several minutes(I for one don't have the patience to stress test for hours on end).

Also I've noticed market is kind of glitchy, it will FC a couple times then it sticks and stays running fine, seems to do this to me on every clock speed above stock.
  20. I don't think SetCPU can be trusted for temp, right now on my phone its showing 85f, Androsensor shows 78f and the phone is pretty cool to the touch so I'm guessing the latter is more accurate.

I even changed the sampling rate thinking it was just laging but it appears to to just show the wrong temp.

my phone has the build month of 1/2011 and it's stable @ 729MHz

how would I know if my phone is not stable with a certain mhz?
  23. jabbawest

    jabbawest Well-Known Member

    You'll be able to tell.
Things you expect to happen won't, or they won't happen as fast, or you'll get an application FC or a full reboot.
If you start to sense that things aren't running the way they should, throttle back to the next setting and see how it goes.

Soooo I flashed this, dl cpu master free and set the minimum to 729 and max to 729, is that how Im posed to do it, whats an app i can dl to see if its working

If you want your cpu running full bore the whole time. Otherwise set your min lower. I have mine set to 122 and mac at 806. Your phone may not go that hi. But thats the idea.
