You can't use your top up balance to buy this phone. Dang nabbit.

Looks like I'm not going to be in a hurry to buy one :(

    EDIT:

You can get the S2 or the Victory with your top up balance, but not the S3.

I was just checking and saw that. Boo. I wonder why. Maybe they want the payment direct.

I know why they do it...it's because unless you buy your top up direct from VM, they aren't making full on it. Buying from a retailer like Best Buy, Walmart, or other...I assume the retailer keeps 20% or more. So $100 worth of top up is only $80 in revenue for VM.

I suppose on the cheaper phones, (or older ones) it's not a big deal, but the flagships probably hurt the bottom line more if sold like that.

I must admit that I'm sad they don't allow it, but at the same time, I'm surprised that they even allow it for most of their phones. I think that's pretty cool.

Yeah, I hadn't even considered using my balance as a possibility until I saw it mentioned on here.

I went to Walmart and Best Buy yesterday, neither had it yet. I forgot the exact date that each gets it, but closer to the end of the month, it will be in-store. I think one was the 23rd, but not sure which store.

Dumb question but why the excitement for the S3? Is it so much better than the Evo?

4g is fine and all but they crippled the EVO when they introduced the 2.5gb cap. Makes 4g pretty much useless as you need unlimited to get the benefits of 4g - steaming audio, movies, etc.

So though the S3 is a 4g phone, VM wont allow you to really enjoy the feature so why not just stay with the EVO?

Id probably be more tempted to try the VM iPhone 4S 16gb for the same price. Ive never owned an iPhone and at least if would be something different to play around with.

    Thanks all.

Well lets see: its way faster; bigger ,sharper ,better looking screen its razor thin nice battery life. 3g is a good bit faster its 4g lte its not only faster than 4g wifimax ,but 4g lte is more available in the US. If you want to get an overpriced iphone go ahead ,but android let you really control your phone.

So what's the processor specs? Why did they pull the quad core?

    Thanks Eric.

Though IMHO, the 4g refs are mute because after 2.5gb, 3g is all you will get from any phone. As for all the other 'enhancements', I'd trade them all for a quality camera such as the one that comes with the iPhone. The EVO camera sucks and that was also supposedly 'way better' that the iPhones.

From my day and a half with the S3 activated, I am already loving it. Everything is just faster.

The Evo wasn't bad, but I notice the difference, even with opening menus, or apps, scrolling, anything. The screen is bigger and sharper, the colors look better. The camera is better. I hated the camera on my Evo V, it took a lot of blurry pictures, and took too long to focus and take the picture. On the S3, you touch the shutter button and SNAP and BAM picture is taken and done with.

The phone weighs less. I like how it looks and feels. The battery lasts much longer than my Evo's, and I haven't even installed JuiceDefender or anything like that yet. That + an extended battery should be amazing (compared to what I have been used to from previous phones).

Even without 4G, I've noticed a boost in 3G speed. My web speed was criminally slow with my Evo, and now everything is much faster. I changed the settings to CDMA mode instead of LTE / CDMA, to try it out as well as limit battery drain, and the speed has been fine. On my Evo, YouTube videos took ages to load, with frequent pauses, and now they load quickly, no pauses at all.

If I enable LTE, I pick it up in buildings, where I couldn't connect to WiMax at all. A lot of this will depend on your location, but all around, the S3 offers noticeable improvements in all areas.

The one thing I have noticed with the S3 so far is that once in a while my bars will go down to zero and my texts won't go through until it comes back.

I still like my Evo V, and I don't think it's completely necessary for everyone to upgrade if they need justification for spending that money. The Evo is fine. I was getting tired of a few bugs I still had with mine in particular. But if you have the opportunity to upgrade to the S3, you probably won't regret it either.

    No problem,

I love the camera the s3 has it has loads of features that I could list on and on.

    1. Panorama - if one of the reasons you were getting an iphone is because of this well the s3 has it too and its a lot easier to use.

    2. Picture taking - well the evo v had a terrible camera and it always took forever to take a pic. The s3 is instant just like the iphone. Not only that ,but the s3 has way better face detection system and a better camera. You can do 8 camera shots were the s3 takes 8 pictures rapidly and you choose the best one. That's one of the many features on the s3.

    3. Instant camera access. When you are on the lock screen you can press one finger on the phone and turn it sideways and the s3 camera loads. Similar to the iphone(must enable it)

    4. Effects - Well the s3 has just about every effect imaginable for any situation. It has low light shots. Face detection shots. Black and white shots. etc...

    5. The iphone and s3 have a very good camera ,but in low light situations or in direct sunlight spots the s3 really shines. (no pun intended)

Also I would like to say never compare androids as a whole.. The Samsung and htc brands are VERY Different. Samsung aims to specifically beat the iphone and Htc is just making a great phone.

I've been reading some reviews and it seems the S3's camera is nearly as good as the S4. On one video it actually said the S3's camera was better. Anyway, how low do you guys think this phone can get, pricewise, in a decent amount of time? Say, 6 months from now?

    Interesting. Thanks

It sounds trivial but a major reason for me to switch to any new phone would be the camera. I use it way more than I ever expected. A few of my relatives have iPhones and the pics they take are outstanding. As you say, the EVOs pics are blurry and take forever to focus.

I will keep my eyes open for other comments on the S3s camera.

    Thanks again and congrats.
