USB sync problem

I'm having some problems getting my computer to recognize that I've plugged my Hero in using the USB. All it does is charge the phone, nothing else. I does this with my computer at work too. I want to put some more music on my phone but can't since I can't get my phone recognized by any computer. What can I do?

My power just went out so I can't see the manual.... but have you tried changing the mode from charge only to mount to PC?

Slide the notification bar down.

Should have an option to click on something to mount to the computer IIRC.

Theres no USB icon on my notification bar. That's why I'm having trouble.

You have an SD card in the phone, correct?

I can't follow the steps in the manual because there's no icon in the notification bar.

Yes the SD card is in the phone.

Try rebooting and see if it shows up.

Same thing. It just starts charging, nothing in the bar.

Is there anything on the SD card that you need? If not, try formatting it from the phone.

Only other thing I can POSSIBLY think of is to take the SD card out of the phone and reseat it.

If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what to tell you.


Perhaps some others have ideas.

Try re-installing the drivers from either SYNC or from pdanet.

See what is installed now by using this utility:
View any installed/connected USB device on your system

Delete anything with HTC in the name and then reinstall.

This didn't help either. I don't think it's a computer issue since I have this problem with multiple computers. I think it's a phone problem, but I have no idea what it is.

At this point it would still be covered under manufacturer warranty....

I have the same problem except I'm using the 2.1.
