Hello -

Shockingly, I'm fed up with my BB Storm2 and am making the move to Android. I'm currently deciding between the HTC Incredible and the Nexus One, but am leaning towards the Nexus One. Sense doesn't really do it for me, and the fact that Incredible probably will not see Froyo until December doesn't help.

Regardless, I'm curious as to how one goes about starting a new contract on AT&T for the Nexus One. For example, can i go to AT&T and just buy the SIM card (obviously with the phone and data package) straight from them? Or, do I need to already have an AT&T account and pop in the SIM from that phone?

Thanks for your input.

The easiest thing to do would be to already have the phone in hand when going in and starting the account. There is a way around it and you would need the rep to put in a dummy IMEI. Not all reps will put in dummy IMEI's so that's why the easiest way to start service would be to already have the phone.

I believe sense can be turned off on the incredible, check the incredible forums for that, but I believe sense was only a layer for home much like other 3rd party home replacements.

Also there are other carriers for the nexus one such as Tmobile... since you have the freedom of choice be sure to pick the carrier that best suits your plans for price and coverage.

I feel the same way! I have a blackberry storm 9530 unlocked and I'm using it on at&t. My memory on the phone is horrible now. I can't have that many applications without my phone freezing up now and having to do a battery pull. I love blackberry.. I've been using their phones since 2007. But I love touch screens.

my problem is... do I give up my current $30 a month unlimited data for a 2gb data plan for $25?

also, email... I love the fact I can have my yahoo & hotmail account on there. I've heard email isn't great.. but I'll be downloading K-9 Mail. I also know yahoo came out with an email program too.

I just don't know if I want to switch yet. I heard at&t is coming out with more android phones.. but haven't announced them yet. I have mixed feelings. I've played with my dad's motorola droid and I'm amazed at how fast everything is.

I want an HTC phone.. but the Aria is a tab bit too small.. and looking at the Evo, that's too big. The storm size is perfect for me.

I also want to be able to have 3G.. which I can't get because I'm using an unlocked storm.

Plus at&t just changed my upgrade eligibility date.. so mad about that because I had it one day, the next day I go to upgrade to the aria and my upgrade wasn't there anymore. Now I have to wait until december for a new phone. and I'm not sure about upgrading either. I'd lose my current $30/mo unlimited data plan. and if I switch and end up not liking the phone.. and want to switch back, I'm not sure if I can get that $30/mo plan anymore.

Unfortunately, Sense cannot be turned off on the DInc, not without rooting and loading a new ROM.

You should be able to keep your data plan as long as you dont drop it you'll be grandfathered in.

Dont expect a ton more android phones from AT&T they've been lacking at best. Their plan for 5 by mid year turned into 2 so we can only imagine how hard their working for more by end of the year, but if you have to wait until then anyway I guess you can see whats out there or see if you ETF is low enough to be worth it.

Nexus one is an HTC phone without sense nice 4" screen. As is the Incredible but it has sense.

Your right, it was the desire that had this ability and then they took it all out of the incredible...not nice :p

If you are already on AT&T you should be able to just take the SIM card out of your Blackberry and put it in the Android. Whether the "data" will work may be iffy and you will probably need to have them switch the IMEI in the system. Not sure if they are going to honor the "grandfathering of the unlimited data plan" since you are switching from a Blackberry Plan to an Android plan, let me know cause I am in the same boat waiting for a Dell Streak to launch in 2 days :D

I am hoping to see how my usage is for a few months before considering switching to the $15/month plan. Since all Wifi access is free, I really shouldn't be on a 3G network except while commuting.

The Samsung Captivate is also due out on the 18th, that is about it for AT&T rumors for now.

I wish I could keep it... Blackberry has a separate data plan from at&t's.. so I'd have to switch. And that's because they have their own separate 'internet service'.

Yea I am hoping that at&t will give me back my upgrade eligibility.. because they took it from me when I switched to a company discount .. 22%.. so now I have that whole FAN # thing and everything is discounted and I can buy phones on at&t premier. I've only been using less than 200mb for the past month. But with not having 3G and only having EDGE that works half the time.. (unlocked storm switches from EDGE to edge a lot when using the browser), I think that is why my usage is lower.

Plus if I don't like the phone, I can switch back in 30 days... and just wait until something else comes out. 2gb on my storm is more than enough then. I'm also trying to see if I can't find an unlocked incredible.. because I saw that today and I really liked it. But if its unlocked, I would need to find out if I can get 3G with it. But I don't think I really want to go with another unlocked phone.
