How Are You Getting Verizon to Give You a Different Phone?

On my 3rd Eris. Have contacted Verizon and HTC in hope of getting a different phone (Moto Droid or Incredible), and the reps have all said that HTC won't allow that. I've pretty much used every tactic, but I either get sent to tech or told to wait for new update.

I keep reading posts from people that are recieving new, different phones, instead of a refurbed Eris. What am I doing wrong here? Those of you that have gotten new phones, please explain the secret method.

There are a lot of variables when it comes to this.

Have you been a customer for a long time?
Do you pay a lot monthly?
Are you always on time?


Also its about the luck of the draw when it comes to who you speak with, and how persistent you can be without being rude.

Well I see one thing that you are doing wrong....you are asking for a new phone. You need to wait for them to offer one to you. The best way to do that is to call verizon tech support and complain about every problem that you get when you get it. Eventually they will offer one up since you have complained so many times and that they have it on record.

Another tactic you could try is to talk to the store manager where you go, explain the problems and tell them that you don't want to go through the refurb bs since nothing ever changes. Also tell them that there are certain things about android that you have come to like alot. If there is anyone that can authorize a new phone for you it is the store/district manager or a CSR on the phone (elevated support rep), the average sales rep in the store has no way to authorize that.

Also with the recent launch of the Moto X, stores may be more stingy. In other words, they may not be as likely to give you a different phone (i.e. moto droid or incredible) because if they run out of moto x phones and they have one very impatient customer, they would want some comprable phones to offer them which would be the incredible and moto droid.

Hope this helps, I too am on a quest to get a different phone from verizon. It takes time but I think it will happen!

I've only had the eris since march so I pointed out that I signed a 2 year contract and its ridiculous that I keep having problems with the eris and asked them if Verizon actually expected me to keep replacing this phone every couple months.. Also pointed out that they removed this phone from the market very quickly after releasing 2.1 ota update... IMO.. not a coincidence!! Thats when my phone went to unusable.. they then offered a moto droid.. Not crazy about the droid but I can at least make phone calls with my cell phone now..

I'm on my 4th eris, and have been extremely unhappy. After multiple calls, in-store visits and promises of fixes, I've become increasingly aware that there isn't a universal knowledge base and no one seems to know what anyone else is talking about at Verizon.

When placing my last call to ask about fixing the silent call bug (I've been able to connect to about 15% of calls in the past 3 weeks, so I actually had to go to someone's house and use their landline), I was offered the option to take a brief customer survey. They called me back (I couldn't answer it!) and I then returned the call from my daughter's phone. I rated them honestly and explained on the voice message my frustration level but never asked for a new phone, just asked for some resolution as to if their would be a update as promised or not to keep getting refurbs.

A tech support service manager called me back the next day (albeit I couldn't answer) and once I was able to call him back from another phone, he was very patient, listened to my concerns and then offered me several options for a replacement device. I am in the minority here and only want a reliable phone, not the newest and best thing so I chose something I am happy with after spending over 40 mins comparing the devices with the mgr on the phone...I did not get a Droid or Incredible. But, I am expecting a new phone that actually makes calls! to arrive this morning and he said for me to try it for a few days before I mail back my eris and if I'm not happy, we can look at other options. If offered the survey option next time you call, take it!!!

this is my story of how I got $199 credit for my eris towards a new phone and got an Incredible for free.

I went through 3 refurbs all the same silent issues.
I am on my family plan and have been for over a decade never missing one payment.
I very nicely explained to them that I have been through 3 eris' in less than a half a year.
They offered me a moto droid and i kindly explained how I didnt want trhat phone for certain reasons and why not replace an HTC phone with an HTC phone
they agreed to cancel my current contrat, opening up a new two year contrct getting the inc at the two year 199 online price, which i got for free for the credit of my eris. so i was able to get the inc for free and I sold my old eris for $150. so i made ot great.
the inc wont be here until shipped by 8/2. and i was told it would be here this week, as i already so my eris due to being told this, just to find out it wont be send til 8/2 so they sent me ANOTHER refurb eris to use until the inc gets here.I was also offered to get the droid X instead of the inc.i kindly denied and chose to wait.

After a million screw ups and 5 different reps, I finally found a supervisor that was amazing. If I wasn't married, I'd probably ask this girl to be mine. She replaced my wife's Eris with a brand new Ally for free, and gave me the Droid-X for $199 and took an additional $50 off for NE2, even though I have over a year left to qualify for it. So yeah, I'll have my Droid-X next week for only $150, which is damn sweet.

I am on my 4th eris, all trackball related. I called and was told VZW would ship me a refurb droid, but I would have to pay for battery and charger, batt cover, etc. I called back the next day, was offered a refurb droid and now I don't have to pay for the accessories. I called the next day, I now have an refurbed Incredible that will be here tomorrow by noon. Keep trying, I was even told that by one rep to keep calling back because all supervisors and reps are different. Good luck.

If you get any refurbed phone diff from what you already have, make sure they send you the battery and cover, charger if needed, usually the refurbs are just the phone.

How did u get them to send the back door,
I was upgraded to a brand new inc for free and got to keep old eris so basically made 150 so get an inc for free
they sent me an eris to use til the inc comes and they couldnt get a back door for it so i gotta use ti without it
