hi everyone. new droid user here ..years and years a palm devotee. i finally decided to break to the evo..how is that for a leap?!! anyhow my life functions on the palm calendar..especially the feature where you can highlight a contact (in your phone contacts) and it appeaars on your calendar complete with the persons phone number. i schedule for business 20 appts daily and not always recurring. i am not a tech type person and am struggling with how to adjust to a new calendar. a lot of the lingo i do not even know..widgets vs apps etc. i certainly intend to do the work and figure this stuff out..i also am not a kid ..and feeling like a dinosaur today especially reading through the forum. so i ask you guys..anyone who might know the palm calendar features in a complete way particularly that feature linking the phone contact to the calendar..could you guide me to a useful product or point me in the right direction?? i am carrying around my old palm and using the calendar until i find something suitable. i wrestled with leaving my palm for quite awhile because of this. i do not have the ability to use my computer during the day to add these appts or look at my calendar..i travel a lot and need the phone to do all this stuff...i have the evo 2 days and am feeling so lost with this. love the rest of the phone but if i cant get this together i dont know what i am gonna do..i have 27 days to make a decision..if i cant make this work i have to return this beautiful phone and i still think eventually palm is going to drop off the face of the earth (despite many loyal people) so i have to find something as a substitute. the blackberry is not for me..as i am too adjusted to the touch phone aspect ( i had a palm pilot back in the day so there is no turning back ). i love my service provider (sprint) for my area so have held off on the iphone. i also use gmail so that wasnt a huge leap to the android for me. any help from you younger folks who are on the cutting edge of this technology would surely be appreciated!!! thanks in advance for any direction you provide!! pam

Went to the post from Pocket Informants-great news, though it sounds like at least fall until it is out of beta testing. I do like Gemini Calender for what it is, though I don't see a ton of extra functionality in it. It is easy to use, though. I may try some of the other ones mentioned while waiting for PI (now, when I have PI, and DDH software releases HanDBase for Android, also in beta soon, I can stop carrying my poor old misbehaving Dell x51v with me, along with my Droid and iPod Classic).:)

I appreciate this thread very much. I have a new HTC Incredible on order.

One of the big reasons that I am switching phones was because my Windows Mobile calendar messed up the times (shifted things an hour off) and totally messed up my entire calendar. I cannot afford to have any calendar issues, so I need a ROCK SOLID calendar that is stable, synchs well, integrates well, allows for recurring inputs, and has nice month, week, and daily views.

This thread was started several months ago, so I was wondering what the latest developments and updates to these apps and widgets might have done to your evaluation of them. Personally, I would love to get in on the public beta of PI when it announced. I have used Pocket Informant and Agenda Fusion on my Windows Mobile devices before. I have never used CalenGoo, but something like that would be wonderful, too.

What is the latest and greatest you have found regarding the DINC and:

Jorte App vs Calendar Pad Pro App vs iRT Calendar App vs Gemini App
or
aniAgenda Widget vs Pure Calendar Grid Widget vs Pure Caledar Agenda Widget vs Androidlet Calendar Widget

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I am new to Android and the HTC Evo is my first smartphone. I was surprised to see how rudimentary the stock calendar functions were at this stage of development. I sync the calendar included with the phone with Outlook 2010 on my laptop through USB using the HTC Sync software that came with the phone. I do not sync with the my Google acount in "the cloud", just my smartphone directly with my own laptop.

The sync works pretty well and updates both the calendar in my phone as well as Outlook's default calendar, plus contacts if I wish. I was missing a monthly view with text details until I downloaded the free Calendar Pad app which uses the phone calendar's data to build a front end monthly or weekly view with (some) text details. So now even when I sync my calendar with Outlook & vice versa the data updates on my phone and can be viewed on the phone with the Calendar Pad interface or with the weekly, monthly or agenda view of the unique HTC or default Android phone calendar app. I am not sure that a third party calendar with bells and whistles would be able to be synced up this way. So despite the limitations, I am glad for now that the Calendar Pad essentially works as a front end for the default Android calendar. I have seen a few weird situations where the start or end dates on the detail view in a multi-day event were off by a day from what they are supposed to be, but I was able to fix this manually at least.

Jim_Phone, Will this replicate the problem? 1) Add a calendar event and check the "All day" box. 2) Save. 3) Select the event. 4)Press the menu button and select "Edit event". 5) The event's date will now be one day in the future.

If so, be careful when you edit an "all day" event. Editing an existing all day calendar event causes the date to be incremented by one day. If you are not careful to reset the date before saving your changes the event will "disappear" into the next day.

I'm having a problem with the capendar. If I set a bday on July 14th and I scroll over July the next year the bday shows up on the 13th instead. Nothing is carrying over to the next year right. I've tried tons of calendar apps and nothing works

This is extremely troubling indeed. This is one of the two main reasons I switched from a Windows Mobile device. My Incredible has not yet arrived. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what's the fix. I will get rid of the Android phone quicker than lightning if I can't get a reliable calendar.

Anyone else have probblems setting up events in Jorte. I cant change the time of a new event (using a EVO). I can set up the new event BUT cant change the time.

Has anyone else had this trouble? Jorte was looking like the best option for me (until the PI beta is public), but if you can't edit your events, this is no good.

Yes, that is indeed the case. I figured out that editing an existing all day event pushed the dates up by one day. However there is another issue I see which may be related. The event date listed in the Event View screen of an individual all day event is one day behind, not ahead. Mind you, the events appear in the correct place in the monthly, weekly or daily calendar view of Calendar Pad. Just when you click on the individual event in the weekly, monthly or daily Calendar Pad view screen and want to read the event details, the date displayed at the top of the Event View screen is one day early. But if you look at the agenda view of the HTC Calendar app without the Calendar Pad front end, the date in the Event View is correct, not a day early. It seems to be a quirk in Calendar Pad. Despite this, Calendar Pad has my vote for number one app in the marketplace. The text in the monthly and weekly views are very useful. I just wish it had some more options to wrap the words in the squares that represent the days and some more customizations of colors and the calendar appearance.

Man I'd pay money to be able to sync two google account calendars on my evo...so many family members share calendars

hey passive, no need to pay money. Log into your google account online and go to your calendar. On the left side of the screen you will see My Calendars and you can select the down arrow for a menu. From that select share calendar. Then just type in the gmail address of the person you would like to share with and the permissions you want to give. The person who you wanted to share the calendar with will receive a notice by email and shortly the calendar will start syncing with theirs. Worked for me on my N1. Hope this helps

Looking for a replacement for the ghastly standard calendar in my Hero with 2.1, I just discovered Calendar Pad. I use the full-size widget with the week view (this conveniently replaced the Android Agenda widget). Clicking on this widget opens up the Calendar Pad application. With the default view set to "Week", i get a small month overview in the lower right-hand corner, which opens up the month view.
Clicking "Add event" brings up the default calendar new event form, which is ok for me.
It's good that Calendar Pad uses the built-in calendar database, as this provides syncing with my PC using HTC sync and with google calendar, as before.

BTW, I just got a feeling of elation about how good it is to be able to view multiple calendars in one view on the Hero. I have my work calendar replicated from my work PC using HTC Sync, and all my private events in my Google calendar replicated via Google. All nicely merged into one view in the calendar on the Hero. This is really cool!

Just thought I should add my calendar app to this thread... Its called Deadlines Calendar and I've tried to take a different approach to displaying how close upcoming deadlines are getting.

When you add an entry you assign a colour and the time it will take. The calendar will then form a gradient going from the background colour to the assigned colour across the timespan you entered.

I think its quite a good setup that lets you quickly know how worried you should be about finishing projects.

Mods: If you feel its inappropriate for a developer to add their own app please delete this :)
