I have a HTC Droid Eris and I've been mainly using the HTC Sense Keyboard. I like it a lot, although it can be laggy at times. I'm wondering if I should make the switch to an alternative input method. But I don't want to switch unless I'm positive it's the one I want because I plan on sticking with it and getting used to it. So far I've tried:
HTC keyboard
Android Keyboard
Swype
SwiftKey

And I've heard good things about Better Keyboard as well.

Select you're favorite from the poll and feel free to mention why it's your fav in the thread.

Thanks!

With the Eris, this is a tough call for me. Performance wise, Swype is by far the best hands down. No FC's and no lag. Swype is awesome in portrait mode. However, I do prefer to type in landscape with both hands (or thumbs :D) and find the Swype layout doesn't work well for me in that respect. Better Keyboard is my fav in that it's layout works better for my typing style, however it does FC quite a bit and can be a bit laggy. The stock keyboard is sufficient but it seems I mistype with it a lot. In spite of it's shortcomings and being the least reliable keyboard, Better Keyboard is what I use most with Swype being second, only because of layout design.

I like the HTC Sense Keyboard as it is more responsive than stock and I can use the Mic function. If Swype or Shapewriter has that option on their keyboards, I'd pick one of them. I sometime am lazy so I like to dictate into my phone, lol.

Just a curiosity, is there an app that allows 2 keyboards to be used? I prefer Sense Keyboard for landscape and Swype for portrait mode.

Right now for me i cannot quit swype...like period. It is too good. So easy for me to type. So fast too. My only gripe is i have fat gorilla fingers and soemtimes it totally gets the wrong word...but i am getting better. Can't go back to normal tap tap tap unless i have to, or that blind type actually works like it looks like it does. If they could mix that with swype... XD

slideit is a gesture based keyboard also... it's free to try. i'm inaccurate as hell, it seems to always know what i want to say. quickly add oddball words, and shortcuts are sick. you can switch between taptap and slide with 1 touch, really I only use that for passwords, and mumbo-jumbo fields, where i don't want it to correct me.
