Help Possible Battery Fix from HTC

Wow i just changed the network from CDMA AUTO PRL to GSM AUTO PRL and then put it back. For the first time since froyo my awake time and uptime are different.

I'll let it sleep some more and see if it keeps getting wider apart. Thanks earlymon

I don't blame the underlying OS, i blame the idiots at HTC that can't do simple things like remove the 30FPS cap, add the h.264 to 720p, or create a stable ROM to save their life.

Usually a big corporation with paid professionals come up with the best software, but it seems when it comes to android the development community has more collective knowledge in their pinky than any company that makes their own Android roms for their phones.

Wow, you're still complaining? It's not even a FINAL ROM, HTC even said that. Yea maybe they are lying or not, I'd rather listen to them than any forum member.

And no I haven't tried using a wall charger, it's all the way across the room lol. But it shouldn't matter anyways. When I had 2.1 it charged pretty fast. I'm thinking of checking into that CDMA only hack that EarlyMon mentioned. Anyone remember the dial code for it in the phone? When I had 2.1 it was already set to CDMA only.

Just sayin - you relize your blowin up over a RC, right? Had this been the official release I would agree 100% but, HTC clearly said its not official and install at your own risk. Just wait for the release before being mad at anyone but yourself imo. Cheers

No, it was another buddy that suggested CDMA only.

I'm suggesting toggling CDMA - GSM - CDMA Auto.

It was established at release that that readout can be initially wrong, so you change it to force it to the right thing.

I like to keep things stock-ish especially where the radio's concerned.

Download the app called "Network" off the market. Its like a shortcut to dialing that.

From what I read, we've got to promote that to our only way to get to the radio now.

Alright I downloaded the Network app, turns out it was already on CDMA (PRL). So I just toggled a bunch of diff ones, should I restart after selecting each one, or just choose GSM, then open and choose CDMA (PRL) again?

Just tried the network update EarlyMon suggested. And then did a reboot to reset the timers. Will post updated findings in a bit.
(note: battery will drop more than normal as I am in a horrible reception area right now, so I am roaming)

Starting stats:
Uptime: 1:55 min
Awake: 1:55 min
Battery: 65%
Time: 11:18 pm

Just going GSM, then exit, then CDMA auto (PRL) - then updating PRL (I'm a belt and suspenders man with that) - did the trick for me.

K thats what I did, PRL is still 668. We'll see how the next day or 2 goes.

I am seeing GREAT battery life after a reboot today:

Down to 84% after 5 hours and 10 minutes.
Up Time 9:06:46
Awake Time 2:24:40

Same thing here. HTC is quickly becoming a joke. Here is a tip HTC: don't modify the base OS if you can't do it in a stable and acceptable manner. Their last update bricked phones and this one makes the phone all but unuseable.

Hey, here's a tip for you: Don't go downloading unofficial software versions based on a blog post. HTC never, not once, said the official release was available on their web site. They said it would be available next Tuesday.

You read a post on a web site not affiliated with htc, download software that people with no connection to htc told you to, and it's htc's fault?

Man up and admit you made a mistake. If Tuesday's release does the same thing, then you can blame htc. Right now, look in the mirror.

As far as usable advice: have your tried rebooting? If that doesn't work, how about a hard reset?

Dont feel like doing a hard reset now but ill try that tomorrow. If that doesnt work ill nandroid back to 2.1... cant do this on a day to day.

Why should we uninstall apps and adjust/optimize feature settings just to save battery life? HTC should have done that from the get-go. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that there is something wrong with the battery life with the Evo. Yes, yes there are those with 3-4 day battery life duration albeit in idle mode. The draining problem still persists even with the Froyo update.

It also doesn't take a genius to realize that many, if not most, of us are getting perfectly acceptable battery life. And that physics is physics: radios take power to operate, fast cpus take power, big backlit screens take power. Users want thinner and thinner phones, which means less space for batteries. Phone makers do their best to meet all these conflicting demands, but you can only get so many amps out of a battery of a certain size.
