Droid Software Issues...

I am interested in finding out what kind of software issues anyone might be having with their droid NOT personal preference issues like battery life and no fast way to find contacts etc. I have been having a few that have happened a couple times and one that is recurring.

First the one that really annoys me that happens quite constantly is when i receive a text message and i unlock the phone quickly to respond, the text box is grayed out and will not let me type anything. I have to lock the phone again and wait a few seconds then unlock and go back in.

Second issue is when i try to unlock the phone the screen turns on but is completely black and I am unable to unlock the phone. This has only happened twice and required a battery pull both times.

Third issue has only happened once and might just have been related to an application i had opened at one point but the screen would not sleep. No matter how long i let it sit it wouldn't sleep. I double checked the sleep settings and tried closing applications but it didn't fix it. I had to power cycle the phone.

I replaced my 39/09 yesterday and got a 43/09 to see if it was just an early batch but was able to recreate the texting issue immediately. Maybe the Dec 11th update will fix it.

Anyone having similar issues? or anything else?

I had the black screen issue it started at the end of calls the screen wouldn't come back so I could end the call. I would have to pull the bttry. It was random sometimes it would and sometimes it wouldn't. Then it got progressivly worse. I also had a problem opening attachments in my email. If i tried to open an attachment it would erase my inbox and kick me to the home screen. When I got my emails again the erased ones would be back. I have had 2 seperate droids that would not activate at all. I am on #5 now. It is a 41/09 I am praying the OTA fixes the problems cuz I love the phone and the thought of all it is suppose to be capable of. O and mine will lose the data connection completely(the icon will vanish) all of the previous 4 did this. The only probs with the text is constant failing to respond requireing a force close. Of corse the bttry life has been awful. So I guess we will see

I dont have the text issue or really the battery one. I do have the one that is MAJOR PITA! The on a call and when I go to hang up the screen is black and it wont wake up. Really bad when Im leaving a voice mail and I cant stop the recording. I have to explain I got a Droid its buggy. I been doing battery pulls from time to time a few more of those I might as well go back to first gen Storm. Got used to the battery pulls on the Storm, not doing another phone like this. Verizon reps said to use the pull out keyboard to wake it up or battery pull. some help they were lol. I do not see this issue being fixed in the update log due the 11th. Might just either deal with it or trade it in on the Passion if it comes out. From the vague info we have on that phone sounds like a better phone anyway.

I have noticed some battery drainage from time to time. I have not experienced the black screen phone call. The biggest issue that I have incurred has been force closes on messaging application. This will randomly happen when unlocking the phone and replying using Handcent. Both my wife and I have had droids since two days after release, I am not sure what the different model series are, so if someone could shed light on that it would be great! Overall this phone has been great for us. We have owned a lot of smartphones and each one has it's quarks. Also each one will have predecessor that knocks it off it's throne, but overall the best ones are those with only small issues that are easily fixed. For instance, iPhone call quality sucks after multiple OS patches, so I do not considered it a good smartphone. The Droid functions perfectly about 97% of the time, which is solid to me. We will see on December 12th what is still pending as issues.

WOW. With such a bad experience on 4 different phones I'm surprised you went back for a fifth! I would have lost my patience after the second one was no good and gotten something else.

For those with the black screen on call end. I think this is caused by the proximity sensor getting tripped on and off throughout the call. Try making a call that is longer than your screen lockout timer and the whole time keeping the upper left of your phone as close to your ear/cheer/jawbone as possible.

I notice that when I am on a long call and I pull the phone away from my ear a lot to look at the call length or I just don't hold the phone all the way to my ear (too loud) that I get this bug.

Ahhh will try that. Thanks love the forums for problem solving. I think I may take off my invis shield as well. Verizon said it would not interfere but Im going to remove it and see.

i had that black screen with battyer pull to fix it problem also. i just got it for the first time last night. i was just done showing off the droid to my friends, showing them all the dif stuff that was on it and a couple min later when i tried to turn it back on, it just gave me a black screen and just stuck there. only way to get rid of it was to pull the battery. weird.

another issue is that sometimes when i make a call, right when i hit the call button, the screen goes dark. i didnt even put it near my face yet and the display turns off. in the beginning when i first got the phone, i would think the phone crashed and the call didnt go through, but it did in fact got through. weird thing is that this happens randomly. nowadays, i just put it straight to my ear without looking at it.

another issue is just lag. this only happens sometimes but if i try to move around quickly, multitasking between apps, or just swiping around really quickly, sometimes it would just lag up. there would be a huge delay before anything happens, generally leading me to think that the phone froze but in fact it is just "loading" or something.

also the max volume seems to suck. for music, its fine. but in calls its not. especially when its on speaker. seems too low for me. maybe its just me.

and lastly, i noticed that sometimes after i use an app and i press the power button to put it into sleep mode, it doesnt go. instead it goes to the lock screen. so i end up having to press the power button twice to make it sleep. this might be an app issue though, i'm not sure. i'll have to do some more testing on this.

thats all i can think of right now on the top of my head. i still think of this phone as a beta phone though, so i can live with these problems for now and will wait for the updates. its beta because of the fact that no other phone has 2.0. seems like google is just using the droid to beta test eclair. then when the wide release comes, they'll have everything patched up. we are the guinea pigs.

EDIT: build number is 40/09

As far as the black screen while in a call you may try a factory rest. It fixed the problem for me. Just make sure your sync is on. Everything comes back my apps even redownloaded. The phone has zero issues now, the black screen during a call was the only issue I have had though. I think most software issues can be fixed with this feature; and its painless really. Other than setting your homescreens back up everything else comes right back. I LOVE this about Android, coming from the moto q9c I'm in heaven now!

Ok as I said before I am now on number 5. I have been very patient because I love this phone and the thought of everything it will eventually be able to do. I really hope we aren't just testers, it was to expensive for that. Well I am having a new prob. I got a 41\09 now and I am unable to access the market. I can get on the net no prob, getting emails ,texts, calls, we r still having a pic text outage thoo. When I try to access the market It prompts me to sign in to google, when I try I get the error unable to establish a reliable connection. Well my handy dandy Verizon Rep says gmail must be down? anyone else notice this?

I had no troubles with the market at all, I'm not sure what might be causing that.

Anyone know who to contact about getting common droid issues resolved?

I sent an email to Motorola but no response yet. I'm not even sure if they are the ones we should be contacting as I don't know who actually makes the changes to the software. I think we need to figure out some way to get ahold of the right people to resolve these issues that way we can enjoy this device to its full functionality.

Motorola is good for trouble shooting (if you can understand them, call center in india). Really though I would talk to Verizon, there tech department is okay and they will replace it if needed and do the warrenty work for you. Motorola makes things more difficult and sometimes will refer you back to your service provider. I have owned many Moto devices and if they are anything like the used to be, then they are really more helpful with general questions that you can get answered here. I don't think you would have much luck with Google either, they would most likely tell you about the dec 11 update you already know about. Just my 2 cents. Moto's number is 18003316456 if you need it but I warnd ya...
