1. do i need to back up stuff now for the update? if so how please because i dont want to lose anything... i'm on orange, which leads to the next question

2. is there any news on when the orange update is? I'm more than happy with 2.1 after swithcing from desire because of it. But my faff with orange never updating from 1.5 to 2.1 on the hero makes me nervous about any further updates now... have we had a date?

Yesterday I had the chance to download the OTA update but I was on 3g so I did not download. Today I only get "your phone is up to date". I tried a reboot and tried every few hours. Any clues?

i don't know why your phone is showing no update but you can manually update from 1.21.405.2 to FroYo.

try this: Manually install the official Froyo build on HTC Desire | Geekword

it did it this morning. it's simple, it worked for me and now i'm all 102.2% FroYo-ed up (can you see what i did there?)

Since I sucessfully updated to 2.2 on my unbranded Desire, I have lost the 'Privacy' menu in 'Settings', and as a result, the ability to back up to SD card. This happened to anyone else?

This affects everybody on 2.2 and I don't know why they've hidden it or what menu it's now under, but this is the only way I've found it:

Settings > Search > Searchable items > Select Settings > Press search key > Type privacy > Press return

If you use Swype you need to use a lower case p in privacy (click the up arrow to turn off caps) to be able to find it!!!

I have an unbranded Desire on on the 3 network in the UK. I have manually checked for new updates nut the only one showing is an update to 1.21.405.2. Has anyone else had their update on an unbranded 3 Desire? Will the Froyo update overwrite the other update when it finally shows up?

I am on three and have had the froyo update. All is working fine.

Hi,

I have a sim-free, unlocked and un-branded HTC Desire and I have yet to have received the update. I am currently holidaying in France with my family. I have a wifi connection with me as well so when I heard from a friend that he had just been updated on a phone bought the same place and as the same spec as mine.
So I checked manually (and pretty reguarly) and I have yet to recieve any word of an update on my phone.

I decided then to phone HTC at there UK Customer Support line and was met with a very lovely english woman, who I'm pretty sure wasn't abroad. (good on you HTC :D ) . I explained my situation and she said that they release the update in chunks or block..i.e some at a time. So my problem is most likely that my phone is later on the list :(

However I suspect it may be because I am France and not in the Uk...anyone else had the same kind of issue or any thoughts ??

Set your browser to allow mobile versions of webpages and reload to the mobile iplayer site then you will be sent a video stream optimised for mobile. Lower quality video but at least it's not a slideshow!

Your a star, thanks. This was my problem, I turned off the mobile version settings because I hate mobile versions of web sites, ebay, bbc and so on.

Thanks again.

Probably just number 3.

The update was only for unbranded phones so until T-Mobile Germany release a branded version of 2.2 I don't think you will get anything..

I don't think you being in America should affect anything as people in other countries outside Europe have got the update on unbranded phones bought from the UK.

I bought what I think is an unbranded HTC Desire in New Zealand. It was a parallel import, and from the Locale appears to have been imported from Eastern Europe. I've tried checking for updates but to no avail.

Is Eastern Europe included in the European release of 2.2?
How can I tell if my handset is unbranded, excpet where there is no obvious branding?

Not sure about eastern europe I'm afraid.

AFAIK the real way to tell if you are unbranded is to check the software number in about phone. If its 1.21.405.2 then you should be unbranded.

Since upgrading to 2.2 (unbranded, unrooted Desire from Vodafone Ireland) I've been having issues with a drained battery possibly due to permanent sync attempts.

The sync icon in the status bar is constantly visible and the Google Calendar Sync icon (default Google/Gmail account, not Exchange) in the settings keeps spinning for hours. It does not state failed and the last updated time is usually just a few minutes ago. As a result, the battery gets empty within hours. I can only avoid a drained battery by disabling the calendar sync.

I've seen a similar issue on the EVO subforum so this appears be related to 2.2 and not to my phone or my specific calendar.

Does anyone know of a fix for this issue? Is it possible to reset calendar sync? Would it be possible to deactivate auto-sync completely, delete all entries in my phone's calendar, re-enable sync, and have all events pushed to my phone again? Would that work and what are the risks?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Guys,

Can any one give me some advice/help, would be appreciated.

I have a HTC Desire on Orange, it's debranded and running Android 2.2.

The phone is also unlocked using a code I paid for online.

Having looked at the screenshots of 2.2 I have decided I want to run my Desire without the Sense UI overlay.

How do I install the standard Android 2.2 OS without the HTC Sense UI.
