Root Guide to Rooting 2.2 for Windows and Linux

I keep getting an error from RSD. I can't find any real answers for it on google, and the link you posted didn't help. I did run it as admin, I tried it in safe mode, I re-downloaded the sbf file a couple times and I did a battery pull a couple times.

The error is:
Failed flashing process. Failed Flashing Process. Error processing flash file. (0x700F); phone connected.

One thing you could try which has worked for some although it doesnt make much sense that it would work is uninstall the motorola drivers and try again without the drivers installed.

That didn't work. I forgot to mention that I didn't get the OTA update, I found a manual install one on another site, could that be causing the issue?

No I did the manual install too, was way too impatient for the OTA.

Edit** Did you do the md5 step? I kept the cmd prompt open the whole time I was doing this.

Edit** Also, I just reread the instructions and there seems to be a solution to the RSD problem, see here: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/74153-if-you-get-failed-flashing-process-0x7100-rsd-lite.html#post1274587

Thanks for the guide. Unfortunately, I can't get the SPRecovery to load through RSD Light.

It gets hung when it says:

waiting for re-enumeration

The error is:

failed flashing process. failed flashing process. Phone did not re-enumerate after RAM-downloader was sent. (0x703e); Phone disconnected...

Any ideas or help would be appreciated....

I got it to work. ( thanks for the great guide!!! ) I though I would share what I found. I had installed Easy Tether on the computer. Just after RDS sends the RAM thing it very quickly drops the USB connections then re-connects. Easy tether was interfering with this. I disabled it and it worked exactly like the guide. I now have ROOT and FRG22....;)

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions...

Now I have to figure out what programs I need now that I am rooted.....

I know I need ROM Manager and titanium backup. Is there anything else I need????

Setcpu is the other one that I would consider a MUST

Ok, so I'm probally going to take the plunge and root my phone tomorrow at work (no PC at home).

My only remaining concern is that after getting a taste of root, I will want to try some custom firmware at some point. If after getting root access on the stock 2.2 with this method, is there a straight forward upgrade path to custom roms?

Thanks I got it... Can you change the CPU in FRG22??

You can you need setcpu from the market. You will also need a custom kernel. Check this thread for instructions on flashing

and this one for a list of Froyo Kernels

I followed the guide and everything worked perfectly. However I tried to boot into recovery to make a backup and the M would come on, stay for a while, and then shut off. If I don't hold 'x' everything boots fine. Any ideas on what I could do to get into recovery?

Yea download rom manager from the market and use it to flash clockworkmod recovery. Its a better recovery anyway in my opinion. If that doesnt fix it let me know.
