Help WiFi connectivity issues after upgrade to Froyo

I now have a persistent WiFi connectivity issues. As far as I can remember, it didn't happen with the stock android 2.1 that came with the phone.
These are the steps that describe the problem:
1. I'm near my home router or a public Wifi hotspot.
2. Turn Wifi on.
3. The phone scans for available networks and automatically connects to the network.
4. The phone has internet connectivity for few minutes.
5. Suddenly the WiFi indicator (notification bar) turns off.
6. Entering the WiFi setting page, the WiFi is still turned on but the networks are displayed as not in range.
7. Trying to scan again doesn't help.
8. Turning WiFi off and on again repeats the steps from #2 above.

Also tried wipe+return to default+reflash rom.
Also happened in another rom based on LeeDrOiD Mod V2.0a.

Have you contacted HTC? If I were you I would've already taken my phone to be repaired or at least notified the manufacturer :O Might be something went wrong with the update..

Did you remember to flash the latest radio zip by any chance.

Yes, I tried all latest radios including 32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2
Same problem.
I was thinking about replacing the kernel with CyanogenMod-6 kernel as I read they have incorporated several fixes to the WiFi driver.

That could be a good way to go, sometimes it can be useful to change roms.
Personally i always recommend a complete wipe when switching to different roms, sometimes it can be beneficial even upgrading to newer roms of the same type.

Titanium backup will enable you to save apps & customizations & reinstall them to a new rom.

As far as I know Titanium backup won't allow me to restore system applications.
I have a sense based ROM with many system applications and I would like to keep them.
I only want to replace the kernel and hopefully fix the WiFi issues.
