Got a Mega List of Issues.....

Hi all, I've owned an HTC Eris since January and have been pleased overall until I upgraded to 2.1 a couple months ago. That's where the real issues became more rampant. I've stumped most of the kids at Verizon, have wiped the phone a couple times, and even was given a whole new phone once.

This post isn't intended to be some whiny rant because I really want to see if there are any resolutions aside from getting a different phone. This list is extensive and obviously I wouldn't be posting if I wasn't concerned. Any help/feedback is appreciated. Thank you!!!!!

1. Some incoming calls freeze the phone. It is any one caller, just random. Phone will just ring uncontrollably and the screen just goes black. It will continue doing this until you pull the battery. Sometimes a force close message appears but you can't clear it. No buttons work.

2. If send text, then happen to turn the phone will it's sending, it force closes. At least the text still sends, but it's just lame.

3. Laggy response and/or need to push a button several times to get it to respond. I don't have a screen cover.

4.The default action on some favorites resets. Many times when I select a favorite to call, the phone asks me which default action I want to set. Hello, that's why I chose a default action in the first place!

5. Can't play more than 2 songs in a row on either Pandora or Slacker without phone crashing and reseting to home screen.

6. Bluetooth disconnects often. Sometimes takes a while to re-connect.

7. If I get a text while browsing the internet, it freezes that page and displays a "server cannot connect" error. I can go back to previous page and stay connected to internet, so that' ok. But I cannot navigate back to the original page I was on without getting the same error message. I need to close the bowser, and re-open to get back to that page.

Have you tried a hard (factory) reset? It really sounds like every issue you have is software related, and a hard reset will usually fix that.

Welcome to Android Forums.

Well, your user name says a lot. :D Those issues have been repeated in these forums many times and over the course of time beginning when that 2.1 OTA was released several months ago.

We've seen users report satisfaction at any one of several steps along the way in the regimen it takes to get everything straightened out: some are fine after a simple live battery pull (remove the battery while the device is on, leave it out for a minute or so, put it back in and reboot)..

..some are fine after a factory data reset, as you say the techs at Verizon have done but with no results (menu > privacy > factory reset)..

..some finally post that everything is ok now with their third or forth refurb, or after talking the rep into an Incredible or even a Droid. :D

If my device were doing all of the things on your list there is no way I'd keep it; it's junk in the eyes of some, and certainly not a reliable device in your eyes. I would go the exchange route until that company came up with a working, reliable phone for me, whether it was an Eris or another model.

But, ;) that factory data reset, hassle as it is, does solve much of that .. sometimes; I'd try that first, then head to the store.

Of course, there is the root option:

..if you choose that, post that choice and we'll guide you every step of the way.

I would second everything that Frisco said. I would also recommend rooting if you are at all technically savvy. It is really pretty easy with the one click apk method and then you can load a rom easily. I recommend xtrsense 4.2. It is much like the stock os but runs far better. I waited until we were not going to get any more factory updates to root and wish I had done so earlier. Much better user experience.

I've stumped most of the kids at Verizon, have wiped the phone a couple times,

This made me LOL!! Kids at Verizon? You don't say!!

3. Laggy response and/or need to push a button several times to get it to respond. I don't have a screen cover.

This is one of the problems so common with this phone and HTC Sense.

4.The default action on some favorites resets. Many times when I select a favorite to call, the phone asks me which default action I want to set. Hello, that's why I chose a default action in the first place!

I had this problem too, and it went away when I rooted.

I would recommend rooting. There is a library of knowledge in the "All Things Root" subsection.

I recommend xtrsense 4.2.

Don't listen to him. KaosFroyo!! :D

If the phone was working fine before the update and this started after the update then it is more likely that the problems are in the OS and not an issue with the hardware. This is a good thing as root may be a pretty quick and painless solution for you. On the other hand, as others have said, the phone is still covered under manufacturer's warranty and you can get it exchanged for a "new to you" Eris to see if that resolves your problems. It has for some.
