My Eris has been acting very buggy. I am running the OTA OS 2.1. (I have not rooted my phone.) Please excuse me if I sound fairly ignorant about my phone in this post. I'm not very technical.

My phone has very little internal memory left. I read that I needed to delete all apps I wasn't using, clear cache, export contacts to sd card, import contacts from phone back on and then delete any unused contacts. I've done all of that and my avail internal memory is still only 50 MB.

My screen freezes on occassion when making or receiving calls. I seem to miss occassional calls. And there is considerable lag.

These probably all sound like silly problems but like I said, I'm not very technical. I've read others have some of the same issues.. And like I said, I tried some of the solutions mentioned.

Any suggestions?

Hi knitpurlgurl.

I noticed that you had a shut down issue a while back after the OTA, too.

If it were my Eris I would not hesitate to back up my apps, sync everything then do a factory data reset (menu > settings > privacy > factory reset.

You'll be starting over, but it sounds like you may need to. ;)

is root an option? even if you dont want a rom it might be useful for tibaackup's features

think of factory eris like windows xp, where its almost required to reformat every few months.

think of a rooted, OC'd eris like windows 7, where its almost impossible to kill.

Good point(s). I guess I just didn't want to come across as over-bearing. For many of us here, root is critical but for the majority it's an option I think.

I guess I'm just afraid to root because I'm not very tech savvy.

There is no need to be tech savvy anymore. There is actually an app in the market that will root the eris and it is extremely simple. You can do a search for "Eris Root" in the market to find the app and read more about the process in this thread.

If you are still uncomfortable after reading the thread, then don't do it.

ive been wanting to do the root, and while I am a bit tech savvy ive never done anything like that with a phone and im afraid of majorly screwing it up.. maybe ill check out that app you said roots your phone right from the app.

I was like you when I decided to take the plunge and root my phone. Actually, I was quite terrified and affraid I was going to really screw something up. Then I found the Universal Root for Dummies thread and I was shocked at how easy and painless it was. Now there are even easier methods of rooting (one being the app OTD mentioned). You can check over here for several different rooting methods as well as links to other useful rooting information.
