Samsung Epic 4g is getting Sprint ID

I bet that they will introduce the Sprint ID with the Froyo update, that way they have a clean start on the phone and lay it down in a "wanting way" to users.

I agree, root and remove is the way to go. I think that it's a huge wast of space, memory and CPU cycles.... good for noobs or non smartphone people.

Time to start throwing a fit now, so Sprint getting the message! No way in hell I want all that bloatware clogging up my phone. I'll return the damn thing.

Edit: Just called Sprint and had them note my account. Will cancel my service and return the phone if this bloatware is sent with any future updates.

I suggest everyone here do the same. 4 0's gets you right to customer service, when calling in.

Sprint ID doesn't do anything unless you install an ID (or many) through the app. It's basically app/widget packs and themes for dummies. Don't want it? Don't click the app. Root your phone and remove the program if you don't want to see it in your list of apps. Nothing to get excited about, folks.

Oh....Sorry I blew up. Can't the app be uninstalled?

I'm pretty sure our Daughter's Transform was functioning before I added the Social ID. Not sure if Sprint put one on when they activated the phone though...kristv will have to answer that as he picked it up for her. I immediately deleted the Social ID and put Launcher Pro Plus on there. The Transform still chugsa bit....but then again, after having my Epic now since Saturday, anything would chug in comparison! :D

I shouldnt have to remind anybody with sprint that sprint tech assist, customer service and saleman, basically anybody at one of their stores or call centers are complete morons, remember the fantastic and completely smooth roll out of the di18 update and how nobody had problems getting that. The guy told me I was going to get the update in the beginning of the new year with my froyo update, it popped up that night instead...

Except that the froyo update hasn't come out yet. :p

I would also disagree that they are all complete morons. Remember that half of the time they work from a script and are just repeating what they are TOLD to repeat.

And as mentioned above.... it's a great reason to root and get rid of the bloatware!!! :D

Personally, I only root if I feel it's needed. If I'm missing something performance wise or want functionality I can't get while running stock. As long as ID isn't something that's shoved down my throat I could care less.

I don't know why people get on sprint employees about dates and similar info. If you are to dumb to realize they're fed only so much info and as mentioned above, are reading from a script of sorts, then shame on you. The more concrete info they have and give only comes back to bite them when it's off because the biggest complainers have unrealistic expectations and want everything yesterday. Push something out early that ends up being buggy, and they get slammed for not testing it more thoroughly.

Level 2 tech support is generally pretty good, and quite a few actually own the smartphone we're using so they can often offer first hand info. At least that's been my experience.

i have a friend with a samsung transform, and helped him hard reset it. it's true that after a hard reset (i think that's what it's called because it's like reactivating the phone) the first thing is it requires you to pick an ID pack. but, there's an "Empty" pack, so no app is downloaded or installed, no wallpaper, just plain old vanilla android home screens.

unfortunately, one of the soft button next to the app drawer is hard coded for Sprint ID (other side is the phone button), which allows you to switch to a different ID (yes, similar to sense's saved profiles) or download a different ID pack.

each ID pack is a download of bundled apps and widgets related to subject of interest. as far as i can tell, the apps can be uninstalled (not sure about the widgets). supposedly, you can create and customize your own ID bundle (like sense profile).

similar to sense, i didn't like it because it takes too long to switch between IDs (or profiles). initial download of an ID pack is obviously slow.

i think it's a good idea for people new to android. it gives them an idea of how customizable and fun android can be without the initial learning curve (which is part of the fun for me). once people become familiar with it, they won't need to download ID packs. i don't like it though that they forced one of the button on the home screen dedicated to Sprint ID.

to be honest, searching for the right apps is kind of a pain, so the bundling of apps is not a bad idea at all.
