My phone won't connect to the web on 3G. I have to switch to WiFi to get it to work. If I turn off the phone, it will briefly work on 3G, but then fails again. Anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it? Do I need to go see Verizon Tech and hopefully get a new phone? I have also tried *228.

I had this exact same problem. It resulted in Verizon sending me a new droid. I could connect through Wi-Fi with no problems. I would sporadically get a connection through 3g but it was spotty and unreliable. My speeds were crawling like 50-60k even when sitting in direct sight of a tower. I tried multiple factory resets and even rooted to see if it would make it better, thought I did not load a new ROM (stayed stock). Nothing worked and after messing about for a week or so I called Verizon and they sent me a new phone.

One of the things you could try is downloading Speed Test from the market. It will show you how fast your connection is or isn't. I was able to watch as an initial connection was made then it would lock up and sporadically connect after that. Throughout all of this time I was showing a connection with the towers on my two 3g arrows, but nothing was downloading correctly.

Since getting the new phone I have had zero problems and could actual see that the problem had been gradual since my new phone's connection seemed a lot faster (I know seems is not a technical or scientific term). Good luck.

I went to the verizon store and they tried to say there was nothing wrong with my phone and that you can't get 3G service everywhere. Well, it wasn't getting it in the store, either. Nor does it get it where my husband (who also has a Droid) has no problem getting a connection. Then they told me my phone wasn't under warranty as a result of us joining plans (even though it hasn't been a year that I've owned the phone). When I told them that was BS, they said it wouldn't be covered under the warranty anyway because I have dropped the phone. I have insurance, but I'll have to pay a deductible to get a new phone.

Try and call 611 and speak to a CSR rep there. I went through them and avoided the store like always. After explaining to them my problem and the trouble shooting I had done, they went ahead and sent me another Droid which solved my problem. I have really neer had much of a problem with people on the phone. They eleveated me to a level 2 tech person who then authorized the replacement.
