I would be very surprised if the iPhone 5 is an LTE phone. And we all know it won't support Flash either because Flash is not "open". Gag me. What a lame excuse.

Yeah, "open", coming from one of the worst non-open companies in the tech world. Remember Apple's 1984'esque commercial where the runner threw the hammer into the giant TV screen? Hypocrites I tells ya.

For me... no interest in the iPhone. But if my wife suddenly wanted one? I might nudge her toward the iPhone simply because there is less for her to screw up... and me to fix. I am tech support/maintenance in my house, and already manage computers, toilets, & light bulbs. Last thing I want to do is to constantly train her... Android is much more flexible... and therefor breakable.

There is a certain user type that would be better off with iPhones. My wife is one.

We seem to be married to the same woman...

She's already expressed interest in the iphone because some of her friends have them. It will be her first smartphone. Good 'baby' step.

I cannot wait for the icrap to come to verizon .. .AT&T might finally get some good Android phones and I can go back and get away from verizon.


Oh and I personally see a lot of android users switching to the icrap. I have had a lot of them tell me they only got their Droid/Incredible/DroidX because verizon doesn't have the iphone.

Apple users differ in general from pc users and even android users. The iphone along with apple products provide a system that is easy to use and basically unbreakable. It is easy to learn and everyone can pick it up and use it.

That being said android and something like windows do not have a higher learning curve by any means. The sheer ammount of customization options and features that are available on these type of devices is too much for some to handle. As an engineering major in college some of the students in class alongside me to this day don't know a damn thing about technology. If i tried to explain rooting to my friend with an evo he would shit himself, he couldn't even get a new keyboard installed and i set him simple directions to follow.

Some people just aren't made to use technology the way it was meant to be used. Some just want their stuff to "work". And that is fine, but most of the people on here want their stuff to "work" they have a very good idea of how it works, can customize it any way possible and want it to perform at a top notch level. My phone is not a phone, or i don't think of it that way. I think of it as a handheld computer, because just about everything i can do on my PC i can do on my phone. Plus its a PHONE! which my PC isn't.

Would i ever buy an iphone, the answer is NO! I would buy a WM7 phone or even a dreaded blackberry before i spewed some money out to apple, minus the ipod which even that isn't too great of a product, apple is worthless to me.

Let's be honest here. The iPhone set the STANDARD for what a smartphone should be. Almost EVERYONE wanted an iPhone and tons of people switched to AT&T so they could get one.

I had the original iPhone and then the 3G iPhone on AT&T. I got fed up with the AT&T network and switched to VZ. Originally got a Blackberry Storm 2 but wanted something more....wait for it....iPhone-like.

Enter my Droid Incredible. It offered everything my iPhone did but MUCH more.

IMO, Android is now the standard and Apple has some catching up to do. If I had to bet, when the iPhone is available on AT&T, you will see a lot of AT&T users switching over to VZ and getting iPhones. What you won't see a lot of is current Android users on VZ switching to iPhones.

The iPhone doesn't offer anything we can't already have using our Android phones. And with our Android phones, as someone else said above, we can customize, upgrade memory, root, use custom ROMs etc. Try doing any of that with an iPhone...

So for me, I'm not the least bit interested anymore in an iPhone on VZ. Maybe a year ago, but not now. Too little, too late Apple/VZ.

I don't think you can legitimately argue that the iPhone 4 doesn't have quality construction. Certainly not "plasticy" like the Incredible.

I agree that the iPhone is pretty dumbed down but that's the OS, not the hardware...

I may be wrong, but I took it that he was speaking of the OS design, not the physical hardware. I may be incorrect though. You're correct from an external hardware perspective the DInc and the iPhone look and feel about the same. OS wise, it's different.

I had an iTouch. There were things about it that irritated me. I had to figure out how to live with them. I got my DInc. There were things about it that irritated me. I changed all of them to something I liked better.

I voided my warranty on my incredible the day I got the thing...I would not mind voiding the warranty on my iPhone if I got one. I am not really worried about it.

Loving all the debate! iPhone is a great phone. My inc is a great phone.

That is precisely what I am talking about. The incredible has a plastic case. I cannot count the number of times I have dropped my phone on concrete and blacktop. Once it was thrown at least 10ft onto the blacktop with only a minor scuff on the corner.
An ip4 is built for show and tell. One serious drop and that glass beauty will shatter. I need a phone that can take a beating now and then. My phone is not here to show off at the local brewhouse.

I am actually thinking about ditching my Evo for an iPhone on verizon. Google is really blowing it. They are allowing far too many phones on different carriers and no one is getting timely OS updates, it's ridiculous. The market is cluttered and needs to be organized much better. It will be at least summer before my Evo ever sees 2.3 and by then, it will be old news anyways. Not impressed lately.

No. I've tried the IPhone and am perfectly happy with Android. If it does happen, I'm afraid what could happen as a result:

- more subscribers means slower data speeds and spottier service
- because of more subscribers, Verizon will introduce tiered pricing for data and will eliminate unlimited
- just because they can, Verizon will increase their price plans (because why would anyone switch back to AT&T)

Hmmm...all this seems familiar...right, look at what AT&T did after getting the IBone.

I see that happening for sure... Honestly, I'd give the iPhone a shot but I use Linux so I can't (no iTunes). I'd have to buy a Mac since I won't ever go back to Windows. Apple products are too expensive to do that. I think I'll stick with Android for now

The Evo has gotten timely updates...imo. Wanting an iphone in my opinion needs no justification. If it is what you want you should buy it. I have never changed my carrier for a phone and I wont be doing it for the iphone. One thing I am excited about is being a consumer it provides another option for iphone lovers.

It is legal, but still voids your warranty.

Your complaint is that you aren't getting OS updates in a timely manner, but your comparison is getting them once a year? I don't see how you can complain about getting multiple updates in a year, because Apple gets one a year...

I show off my cool features to my iPhone friends, and compare setups with my android friends, but I could care less what the casing on the phone looks like. It could be wrapped in duct tape so long as the guts are fancy and screen is solid.

A jailbroken iPhone is not the same as S-off android. As for updates. I have been running a solid gingerbread ROM for weeks and a flawless CM gingerbread. ROM for about 5 days. Android is for active users. If you want someone to hold your hand, apple is a great choice.

Even if I wanted an iphone, I don't think I could bring myself to shell out that much for hardware that was released 8 months ago. I had considered an iphone for my wife, but CES pretty much showed there's a lot more bang to be had for the buck on Verizon in the next couple months. I'm definitely sending the strong recommendation to the rest of my family to stay away from the iphone4 on Verizon and wait for the LTE version in 2012.
