Extreme noob needs help rooting htc hero.

I'd like to tether my ipod to my HTC hero..I found some instructions, however the program wouldn't work...I'm guessing its because I have a completely updated hero? Can anyone offer some instructions on how to easily root even though I've got the latest htc updates?

Nice to see you are still around, andygu3. Anyway, +1 on what he said with Z4Root.

Just sideload that to your Sprint HTC Hero. Enable "Install from non-market sources" and "USB debugging" and then use a file explorer like EStrongs File Explorer to install the .apk. Then you are ready to root by running the Z4Root app. It is easy as pie.

You guys are Slackers....at least ask what Build he is on.
If its older...I MUCH prefer Universal Androot.
(no issues with CW Recovery)

its what i used when i rooted my phone, its fast and easy and theres also a video on it on youtube, its useful if you're a visual learner like myself

I used z4root and flashed aosp 9.9.2 quick, easy and painless

+11111 on Universal Androot, great app, fast and reliable and is what I also used and highly recommend as MHC mentioned, but depends on what build your on, if you are on V1.5 then UA is the way to go
