A Few Questions About Annual Upgrade

Hey y'all. I have a VZ acct under my family and my mother is the primary line. We have verified that the primary line is eligible for an annual upgrade, and I want to use the primary line's annual upgrade to upgrade my phone.

Lets say that, hypothetically, I decide to get a Droid X using the primary upgrade. Would I be able to just get them to put it straight onto my line as my phone number, or would we literally have to set it up on the primary line, and then afterward go and switch the phone over to my line and activate my mom's phone again? If so, how would I go about doing all this activation stuff? Also: I currently have a Motorola Droid as my phone on my line. If I were to follow through with the plan of getting the X on the primary line, then switching it to my line, I was wondering how this would affect my Assurion insurance plan? I want to make sure that if my Droid X gets lost/broken, I will be covered by Assurion and get a replacement Droid X. I am afraid that they will still see me as having an original Droid and will thus not send me a Droid X on the off chance that I need to file a claim. Would I need to change the insurance plans around to make sure that the proper line is covered by the proper insurance, or will VZ automatically know which phone is currently activated on each line and honor the insurance for the phone I had on it? And I would like to make sure that my mom's insurance policy will remain for the phone she will be keeping (Droid ERIS). I might not have explained this very well, and if you do not understand please let me know and I will try to explain better. Thanks for any help you guys can provide, I am really trying to find some answers because I am thinking about going in to the VZ store tomorrow and picking up a Droid X :)

PS: I know the X is not the newest phone, but I have thought about my choices and I have come to the conclusion that it is the best choice for me at this time.

I think the Verizon store I went to was able to transfer the upgrade from one of the lines eligible for the upgrade to my line that wasn't eligible at the time. As soon as you register your new phone with Verizon, they will know you have an X and as long as you get insurance for your X like you said; you should be fine. I'm not sure as far as your Mom's insurance but all of these questions can be answered at your local Verizon store.

PS: I know you want an X, but I would wait to see how the Thunderbolt is in person.

Ok I talked to a lady at VZ store and she said it was ok if I use the primary upgrade for my line. I am gonna get it order but I still was kind of under the impression it would show up under the primary line as having a "Droid X" and mine will still show as a Droid. I just want to make sure the insurance gets applied to the right phone on the right line so I am covered if I have to make a claim  Can anyone who has done this before (buy a phone with primary upgrade but instead activating it on a different line) can y'all tell me how you made sure the insurance policy was on the right line and all? I mean when I activate the phone under my number is it just gonna automatically pop up for VZ and they will know I have the Droid X. Or will I have to tell them to make sure. I just don't know how ne of this works :/

Also, the reason I decided on the X is because I really do not want a 4G phone. I am not willing to pay an extra $10 a month for 4G when I do not live in an area where 4G is even available.

Insurance can be added within 30 days. Just verify features.

As far as the $10 per month extra for 4g, please visit Cell Phones, Mobile Phones & Wireless Calling Plans from Sprint for more details. For more information regarding verizon 4g service, visit www.verizonwireless.com/4g and be sure to sign up for email alerts so when 4g pricing is announced, you can see if you save $10/month.....

Hey folks, I just got off the phone with a VZW rep and he told me that they did away with the annual upgrade discount for the primary line. That my line would not be eligible and I would have to wait for 20 months into my 24 month contract.

That sucks because thats one of the main reasons I left tmo, the annual upgrades. I like having the latest tech. I see you all posted within the last week, perhaps the rep I spoke to misinformed me?

They did do away with it. People who had contracts before January 16, 2011 have one more annual upgrade or NE2. If they don't give you one, it is a breach of contract on their end, and you are able to get out of your contract without having to pay the ETF.

That's correct. I checked and have one bc we signed up for our contract a year ago.
