Best Verizon Alternative to HTC Thunderbolt?

Well, if the Thunderbolt doesn't come out on the 10th I need to get a phone by than. So what is the "best" alternative to the Thunderbolt? iPhone 4, Droid Incredible, or Droid X?

I would say the incredible as its a HTC phone. iPhone 4 is nothing like it. The DX is nice as it has the big screen but it has MotoBlur.

The DX does have blur, but you can kind of trick it out HTC style with launchers and widgets. I've had both the Incredible and the DX, and they're both great devices. I'd say go to the store and check them out.

Aside from the fact that I am far from an Apple fan, with the way Apple launched the iPad and iPad 2 so close together and the rumors of the iPhone 5 just around the corner, I couldn't justify that one.

I'm going out on a limb to say the iPhone 4. And the only reason I say that is because if you're (wow I didn't use YOUR!!) staying with Verizon, you're going to see all of your friends jump on 4G, and you're going to wish you had a 4G phone. If the rumors are true that Apple doesn't care about 4G for its next iPhone, your phone won't be as quickly obsolete once the new iPhone comes out and it'll be easier for you to sell the iPhone on Ebay and get into a 4G phone.

Trust me, the only reason I'm waiting out this stupid TB is because I want a 4G phone, granted all the FREE phones out there look mighty tempting, but I know if I get a phone that's only 3G capable and a slew of 4G phones hit the market, I'm going to wish I had waited for a 4G phone (especially if they have unlimited 4G data plans that are later done away with for the tiered pricing).

pick up an incredible if you MUST get a phone, and then return it when the tb does actually come out

Oh, and yeah if you intend on returning the phone when the TB comes out then yeah I'd get a droid related device, especially if you're new to the Droid world to give yourself the exposure, hell go ahead and download all the questionable apps that you think may have a virus so that when you get the TB you aren't loading it with malicious apps!

Oh, need one NOW....

Droid X is best bet in my opinion: UNLESS you are a hardcore modder.

No app space quirks like on the Inc (135mb data file limit- nuts).
A little faster
Better call quality
More app space
4.3" display is good

Only problem with the X is they allocated all 7.6gb of internal space to apps. Should have left at least 4gb for media, since most big apps install big data to the sd card anyways.

IMHO the DX is the phone to get. I also have the incredible, but prefer the DX overall. Don't let people fool you about motoblur, it is incredibly easy to use ADW ex, LP, Zeam, etc and never worry about Blur. I'm currently using ADW ex and it's beautiful and fast (using screen option #4).

How do you juggle the phones? Just update which phone on the VZW user account page?

The DX is my main phone at this point. The incredible was being used as my backup phone/mini tablet (not activated but all apps worked via wifi). My GF broke her blackberry back in Oct and I switched her over to my Dinc then. Just a couple weeks ago she wanted a bigger screen I snagged a new DX for her via upgrade. So now I don't really use the Dinc, just have it in case I need a backup. But I used it for basically 5 months before I switched over to my DX. The main thing I would say is they are both great phones but the larger screen size of the X trumps any small positives the Dinc may have had (sense, amoled, louder external speaker).

I had a x and had so much extra crap on it ( launcher pro, beautiful widgets etc.) Just to make it tolerable. Larger screen was nice but DINC is what I bought when I sold my x for the bolt. Love this phone. If 4G is outrageous I'm getting a DINC 2.

LP and the original ADW were both quite laggy on the X. After I tried both I switched to ZEAM launcher which is lighter but MUCH snappier. Used Zeam up until a couple weeks ago when I switched over the ADW ex, that has the nice 3d animations. Many of the 3d animations are a tad laggy, but using screen swipe option 4 it's smooth as butter and looks very nice. Otherswise overall I can see no difference better or worse between the DX or the Inc as far as launchers go. Each to their own and if I had to use a stock launcher Sense is big time "winning" in that category. Screen size and GPU are stronger on the X. Smoothness outta the box is better on the Inc I agree. But even then motoblur isn't all that bad if cleaned up - my GF is using motoblur that I cleaned up for her and she has no issues coming from the Inc and Sense. In other words, I think the launcher issue can be a tad exagerrated by some IMHO.

With the Droid X, you *do* have the option of rooting. It's not like the ADW launcher is the ONLY alternative to Motoblur. Once you're rooted, there are a number of roms and themes which enhance the user experience.

This is true. Although I've been rooted since early on, I have not dipped into ROM's as I haven't found the need. I do use several root apps (DX overclock, CPU tuner, wifi tether, titanium backup, etc) that make the phone absolutely a better experience however.

It's funny. Back during the whole Incredible crisis, I had my order in. We were looking at about a month on the backorder at that time. I waited it out two weeks-ish and couldn't stand it anymore, so I ordered a DX. I got it and my initial reaction was, "Now that's a whole lotta phone!" I carried it for two weeks and guess what showed up? My canceled INC. I sent it back, but then started second-guessing myself. I originally wanted the Incredible. I decided to order the INC and compare them side by side. I had gotten used to the DX screen, but to me, the INC screen was much more crisp. What sold me was the pictures I'd taken on my INC vs DX. The INC's came out much more clear. (Setting maybe?) I decided to send the X back.

I guess the moral of my story is to go with your gut. The one thing I truly miss about my DX is the size. Funny, because at the time I wasn't so sure about that. The T-Bolt isn't as tall and skinny, but rather a tad shorter and wider.

I'm in the same boat as a bunch of you guys (about to jump out). If one were to pick up a new phone where is the best place to do so? I have seen the X is available from costco for $50 and the inc is free from HTC.com. Any other suggestions on where to purchase a phone from and why (free shipping, best price, best warranty, etc.)?

The X is free on Amazon with a new contract.

Droid X; similar screen, 8 mp camera, (i love the hdmi out), long battery life. I would get the X over the incredible, mostly because of the screen. If you truely dig the HTC sense, then get the incredible. Plus the X is sexier than the incredible, IMO. i have a samsung omina with windows mobile  so any android phone looks sexy to me.

I really want a FFC and the Droid X does not have that. I also like the HTC Sense. Any ideas?
