additionally,
"1. VZW Location Services: Uses Verizon cell towers to triangulate your position, pretty accurate. I don't think it uses additional batteries, because it's relying on the cell signal.
2. GPS: Uses GPS satellites, should be most accurate but in my experience isn't very reliable unless you're outside. Eats up batteries, because you're turning on a separate component in the phone.
3. Google Location Services: Uses a combination of IP address and wi-fi access points to determine your location. Least accurate, but usually reasonably close, and doesn't require any additional battery use."--(user id:Torgo)
from what i understand--it means that when you enable it, and this message pops up,
"by selecting vzw location services, you are enabling verizon wireless and third party authenticated and validated location services to access certain location finformation available through this device and/or the network"
that as long as you have the option checkmarked, Verizon & any of its affiliates (Internal marketing & third party marketing affiliates) can pull statistical data (like google analytics) to see the bulk of consumers locations for (marketing) business purposes & could in turn tailor specific marketing campaigns to higher density areas based on their cell phone information poll (hence the location information).
this might not be the sole purpose, but that's a thought.
i don't have it enabled.
if some VZW app requires it, i'll enable it. until then, i'll disregard its existence
this is, of course, my paranoid response but it's what is practical to me.
