My friend had a ascend and he downloaded a app on the computer called z4 root. It helped him remove all the junk metro/cricket had put on. Should i download this as well? What are the features of this? Where can i download it?

Please solve these three questions- Thank you

Rooting is as easy as 1 click z4root rules...then it unlocks the phones power!!!

Toke give very good advice here, about rooting the phone and for sure Z4 is the way to do it. Honestly, I have NO IDEA why it got taken off the market? Not sure if it was booted off or the developer yanked it, but you do have to get it via the pc:
*So make sure you have "able to get apps from outside sources checked" If you don't you'll know it just won't let you intstall and then you check it and your there.

Z4 I REALLY LIKED before I knew NOTHING about it, because it has 2 options: 1. Temporary Root 2. Permanent Root.

With Temp Root, you Root, do what ever you want to do, take of crappy system apps, whatever, then the next time you restart the phone, it is unrooted and back to normal. So I did that alot at the begining.

Just for the record though with "Permanent Root", it just stays rooted thru start-ups, etc. BUt, like if you need to take the phone in or something, you can "Unroot" thru an option right in Z4.

Clearly the best app for rooting 2.1 by far far far. Awesome app.

Also, just FYI (byt the way, I have a tendency to write long posts, it's a bad habit, so sorry), but what you are saying about your friend using this to take off those unwanted factory apps.

That stuff is NOT DONE with Z4, all Z4 does is "unlock" the phone and allow it to be done. To remove those apps, as well as many other nice features. You will need an app called "Titanium Backup"

After you root, you open Tit BU and find your app, like UNO that came on my Ascend. Click on it and click uninstall. GONE.

Tit BUT-Also, after you have your phone set up and all the apps you want, etc. It can do a batch backup of all your apps. so if you crash out your phone, you can reinstall ALL of your apps ina batch process with a few simple clicks. (BTW: Those backups go into a Titanium Backup folder on the SD card, take that and save it on your PC or something, so just in case)

OK, I hope that helped.

Anyone reading, that would like to clear my curiosity - Why did Z4 go off the market and make you run to the web to get it? Anybody have any idea on that.

Ok....feel free to ask questions if you have problems.

Another good program is Root Explorer it's a file explorer, but when your rooted, you can go into all the sytem stuff. I almost don't like telling about it as it's a very easy was to get yourself into trouble. BUT there is a button at the top R/W which is read/Write or something, DON't Hit that and it will just keep you in "Look around" mode....you don't want to change ANYTHING in THIS AREA, Basically, don't get it till you need it....

OH well...good luck....feel free to ask if you need anything more....

jeff, google won't market apps that void your warrantee. rooting voids it.

That was my 1st thought, but then I started thinking about all the "Root Only" apps on there, but I guess that's once it's already done, so it makes sense.

So THANK YOU...Plus, My "Thanks" on that one tripped you over the 200 mark...LOL...SO I had to do it....

Have a great day.
