Heh. Which old movie is that from? The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, I think.

Labyrinth, right? Good ol' Bowie. =]

Seems like they might do the E3D a little different with early floor versions though.. I mean, one of this phone's big draws is the 3D. Pro 3D or not, we're all curious about it. So you'd think it would be in Sprint's best interest to have a model with working 3D showable at least a few days early, so people can see it for themselves.

Assuming it's good 3D, of course.

At the same time though, I suppose I could also see them continuing to wait until launch-- either way they're gonna have people in the store to see the beast.

Now THAT is an interesting point.

Lots of places like Radio Shack and others don't have live phones - they have mock-up bricks with stickers showing the home screen. Either that will change, or the first rep in those stores to get one is going get mighty popular mighty quick.

Well if the Nintendo 3DS is any indication, I think a lot of those stores will still have the "proptronic" version of the phones. I've been to 3 separate stores looking for a demo 3DS and no one seems to have it. All of these places have demo old DS models. Not sure what's going on there.

Best Buy seems to be a good place to find demo units for the 3DS, I have also seen them at Target.

Okay, so just to help get the thread back "on topic," I decided to do a little 'bit of investigation for timeframe reference on the original EVO 4G release and different events that corresponded to the event and cross-reference to this year and any possible events that might be tied or possibly relevant to the EVO 3D release.

Sprint had a HTC EVO 4G event, in conjunction with Disney and the release of Prince of Persia on May 12, which was also the official announcement of pricing and the $10 4G fee (now known as the Unlimited data fee)
Sprint HTC EVO 4G Event Scheduled for May 12 [Sprint Announced Official HTC EVO 4G Event on May 12; Disney?s Prince of Persia Said to Also Attend It] | TFTS Technology, Gadgets & Curiosities
This got me wondering what 3D movies are coming out fairly soon that Sprint "might" tie in with. If they keep with the Disney cross-promotion, then Pirates of the Carribean might be a good "cross-promotion" event for Sprint to get on the boat with, since it's scheduled for a May 20 release, in 3D:

Best Buy started accepting pre-orders on the same date (May 12), which was less than a month before the June 4 "official" release.
http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/77708-best-buy-now-accepting-pre-orders.html

Google I/O 2010 conference was May 19-20
Google I/O 2010
This year (2011), it's May 9-10
Google I/O 2011

So, if we go based on the timeframe of events, I guess we'll just have to wait and see if Sprint has a big EVO 3D event, like they had with the original EVO. Since there haven't been any leaks of any special Sprint events coming up, my speculation leads me to think that the release will be mid-late June.

But ultimately, the one thing that seems "likely" is that once an official "release date" and "pricing" has been announced, the phone will be available for pre-order right away and available for purchase approximately 3-4 weeks after that.

All of this is pure speculation and theorizing, but just wanted to put a little more logic based on past history with the original EVO.

Well Sprint announced Samsung Nexus S hits stores May 8 with a $199 price tag. How much time they let that marinate in the limelight is anyones guess. looking at how much time between EVO and EPIC's announcement of availability might be something to look at.

I would think EVO3d wouldn't be available before June 8th so they can avoid people swapping out the Nexus S for the EVO3d. This assuming returns for phones, swapping for another is limited to 30 days. Or is this something that Sprint/Samsung don't really care about?

I'd say they care, slightly. The Epic was released strategically more than 30 days after the EVO. Even the white EVO was released more than 30 days after the original black EVO. Luckily for me, Best Buy accounted for the first 2 EVO's that ended up going bad and had my 3rd replacement date as the start date in order for me to trade for the white EVO.

Here's more "logic" based speculation that can be thrown into the mix:

Sprint is the sponsor for the upcoming NASCAR All-Star Race
NASCAR announces fan-friendly events for All-Star Week - National Motorsports Travel | Examiner.com
As some might recall, prior to the original EVO release, there were a bunch of ads about the original EVO at a NASCAR race, prior to its release.

Going beyond that, NASCAR had aired a 3D race last year (via DirecTV) and apparently they plan on having more races available for 3D viewing. The above-referenced event seems like a pretty good opportunity for that to happen, especially in conjunction with one of NASCAR's major sponsors in Sprint
MediaPost Publications NASCAR Airs Racing Specials In 3D 01/31/2011
Can you say "exclusive" 3D footage "behind the scenes" from the Sprint NASCAR All-Star race that will be available for viewing on the EVO 3D?

Now, again, this is all speculation. And I might as well throw it out there that if Sprint's marketing executives fail to take advantage of all these resources, then they get a FAIL in my book. I'm open to a job offer, if any execs feel that my ideas would benefit their growth as a company...LOL.

Drexy Drexy Drexy. Contributing to my EVO3D excitement one post at a time. I'm not the biggest fan of nascar but watching a 3D race on that SLCD qHD screen will be amazing.

It could be mid to end of june, called sprint today, and asked, of course she gave me no info, but did tell me sprint is launching a 4g samsung device that will be high end, and it will come out in june before the evo 3d, which makes me think it could even be july, but very curious what the samsung device is, she said that was all the info she had

Probably the galaxy 2 and if so I'll go with it if it comes out before the evo3d. Not that I think one will be better than the other but I have a trip at the end of june and would like a phone before then - also the galaxy 2 is out already in europe so there is lots of actual feedback on the phone and so far it is positive (it seems they fixed most of the issues with the galaxy s). Of course between now and June there is lots of time for issues to become known so my feelings on the matter might change by then.

Of course if it is the galaxy s ii and sprint sticks a keyboard on it like the epic than I'll have no interest in it.
