Help Push Notifications?

Does the Push notification only work for Gmail and Facebook? Will it not work for the email app? Or is there a way to get it to work for all your apps?

I don't have hotmail, but I've read bad stories about it. Do you pay for your Hotmail account?

iPhone has push because it can't multi-task. Android just runs apps in the background so im and gmail are real time (I actually get my gmail on my phone before my web account!). Push means that at a given increment it will turn on the app check for updates and turn it off and update an icon. It is highly inferior and rarely works accurately.

you need to make sure that it is in the list of accounts in the sync settings, otherwise it won't try and sync. home>menu key>settings>accounts and sync - if the account is not listed in the manage accounts section under auto sync then try adding it.

The iphone Mail and phone app actually do run in the background. Push is the opposite of fetch, which means that instead of your phone doing the work of manually searching the server for new messages, the server will do the work of sending the message to the device. The device then notifies you of the message.

You are clearly wrong, what you described is Fetch, push is just like it sounds, the server pushes the info to your phone, your phone does not have to search for it. gmail is not true push, to show this, just turn off sync on your phone and see if you get any notifications, you wont until you turn it back on. With push email, the notifications are sent immediatly to your phone, hotmail does not support push but there are apps like Mail Notifier on the iphone that do push hotmail and live mail, i am still looking for someone to create that kind of app for android, it would increase battery life greatly if i can turn off sync.

after doing some more searching, there is an app called k9 in the android store that seems to push mail from both my gmail and live.com accounts to my N! with sync turned off let me know what anyone elses thought are on this app

Messages can be sent using our webservice and can also be configured using our Campaign Manager tool.

The Xtify platform also allows you to geo-trigger notifications - you can set messaging rules based on a user's proximity to particular locations.

I don't know about all this, but the Palm Pre (not a great phone in many ways) has AWESOME push, and emails come in even faster than with my Blackberry. They are just about instantaneous. Seems to me that Google has the resources to implement such a system??
This "every 15 min" checking doesn't even work consistently. There are plenty of times when I looked at the phone and for some unknown reason it had not synced in an hour or more! Not great if you are trying to run a business.

How do you enable/disable push via the checkbox (where is that box) ... I'm pretty sure mine's disabled (accidentally) because I don't get new emails unless I open the app and physically select refresh.
