Should I get an Evo now or wait?

I've been looking into buying a new phone. (android powered) and I found the HTC Evo, I read all the good reviews on it and want it. Or should I get another android phone..(any opinions?)
But the thing is I have metro as my phone carrier and I don't want to switch to sprint.

Could metro do a FULL Flash for the Evo? Does anyone know?
I don't think I can do it myself so I'll have to take it in to someone to do it for me.

90% sure it cant be used on sprint anymore.

What are some of the reasons why Sprint would blacklist a phone? unpaid bill? reported theft? anything else? just curious.

When I sell my Evo, I'm going to want to be prepared to answer questions like this to assure the prospective buyer that my phone is clean. I assume if I deactivate my phone, it can be reactivated by someone else at any time, correct?

also if a phone was reported to insurance to be replaced.. the esn on it is reported as bad.

once deactivated... and with a good esn..
yes.. anyone can activate it.

i like to do the deal at a sprint store.. so sprint can verify the esn is good.
I have sold 2 phones this way... and i feel good walking away with the $$.

And now the game changes with Kingdom coming out :D... It seems to me that the Kingdom is more a replacement phone for the EVO4G than the 3D, because the hardware upgrade is more incremental, rather than blowing it away like the 3D does. And as such, I would now expect the 3D to be priced at least at 250, if not 300  (prob 250 though). The Kingdom would be the 200 smacker phone and the Shift maintain its 150. The only thing that doesn't quite work out is "replacing" a phone in the EVO family without a "non-EVO" one. But the EVO4G cannot sell for for 200 while Kingdom does, and I don't think even Spring wil try to sell two phones above 200 . Thoughts?

Assuming Sprint even gets this kingdom (is that confirmed?), it is entirely possible that the kingdom will launch at a price below $200. The shift did at $150. Anything is possible with pricing, but with Sprint taking yearly upgrades away from so many, I think launching a top tier EVO branded phone for over $200 would be a bad marketing move.

IMO $200 on a contract is already pretty pricey for this sort of equipment. If they launch it at $250 I would almost refuse to get it out of principle. How high is too high? If companies are allowed to keep raising prices like this, what message are we sending them? Eventually we are going to be paying full blown retail for phones AND being forced to sign a contract if we allow prices to climb.

Kingdom was confirmed for sprint.

Here is a shot in the dark... about price and 2 year contract upgrade....
Since sprint will be making me more on the contract..
And users will be out of contract at time of upgrades..

My guess is that sprint will be more aggressive with the prices.. Lower 2 year purchase price

The precedent for $250 has already been set by Sprint (Epic ), which did not last (and now selling for 150 ;)), so you have a strong point. BUT, cost recovery for the devices becomes an issue if the handsets continue increase in price (per unit) due to new tech and R & D. So, I believe there WILL be a day where the standard price for a higher end device will go above 200, but I'm not sure we're there yet, either. After all, the Echo is a "new" tech (for handsets) and it's selling (? ;)) for 200. It's a fine line to be walking for carriers, and I believe Sprint has less slack than others to play with. So I agree with that point, especially if it helps bring us the 3D for $200!

Probably true, or at least I hope so. Sprint has had a net gain in subscribers for a bit now, but not enough to afford to overprice handsets. :p

Bottom line for me is this: I'll NOT be buying an EVO 4G, at least NOT for $200, not when a comparable "lower end" device (Shift) is cheaper, and 2 other devices with better specs to be released soon for probably same ballpark price. :D

I was thinking of switching to sprint..the service in my area for Verizon is horrible, which is ironic since verizon supposedly has best network.

Looking at cell towers in my area I noticed Sprint has one only about 5 miles down the road, while nearest verizon tower is about 40 miles away, maybe tht is the reason for bad service.

My question is though I currently have a samsung fascinate phone, and while I love the screen...I hate everything else about phone..it keeps crashing..missed calls (probably due to verizon), horrible battery life (probably due to verizon service) and tired of overpaying verizon.

Does anyone know ow the HTC EVO 4G compares to fascinate? Also is the EVO 4G end of life? Should I wait for something coming out right aorund the corner?

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think as far as sprint goes the next phone probably would be the motorolla photon. check it out:VIP Smartphone - Motorola PHOTON 4G Superphone - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA - Overview - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA.

but personally i agree that the evo is still top notch compared to some of the other phones coming out. my friend switched from an evo to a nexus s 4g but hated it so much that he switched back to an evo.

the evo 3d is a very cool phone. i played with it for a while at best buy. it is super fast and smooth. is it better then the evo? well that is matter of opinion. but for now my evo satifies my needs and i can wait til next year when i'm due for an upgrade. who know what the next great thing will be by then.

On one hand the Evo 4G is getting a little dated and it goes EOL (End Of Life) this month, maybe already has. So, if you're concerned about manufacturer updates you won't be getting any.

On the other hand, mine was quite easy to root and the ROM development community will likely keep providing ROMs for a while. There are Sense 3.0 and Sense 3.5 ROMs available for the Evo, as well as others, so we know the hardware can handle the new UI.

It's a very nice phone and I wouldn't trade mine for anything.. except a Samsung Galaxy Nexus :)

I am about to get my buddies evo from him to replace my stolen ascend. Should I go with it or just save up for the latest and greatest Metro has to offer... I am buying it for 75 and haven't looked too far into getting it flashed as of yet.

Evo is still a great phone. 75$ is a great deal. I would take that offer in a heartbeat. If you wanna flash it to metro its not too difficult, there are plenty guides for that so dont let that affect your decision.
