No Netflix for YOU!!

You can blame Blockbuster bloatware. Blockbuster will be asking for their money back if Netflix is put on the TB or any other Blockbustered device. Kudos to HTC flipping the dime for my Incredible, at any rate :)

Not joking about Blockbuster being the issue.

The 8655 is in the Revolution that is getting Netflix, but no Blockbuster bloat on that.

Added: I have an iPod 4 and Netflix plays as good on my Inc on 3g as my iPod does with wifi. Netflix cache process is near amazing. Incredible has a much larger display for widescreen compared to iPod. TB would be even better.

The one hope is the Blockbuster deal is only a short term one and later in the year the TB gets Netflix

There is a special circle of hell for anyone associated with Blockbuster.

Since nobody knows the date, Satan's minions could come for the souls of all Blockbuster employees any day now. Once they are all burning in the unending fires of blackest hell, Blockbuster's contracts in the natural world would no longer be binding.

Guys, guys (and girls), calm down... Netflix says that there are more phones that are going to be getting the app. What they did was release the app for phones that they know supported the video playback they were using. If you notice the phones that are listed none of them are brand new. They are releasing the app to phones that have been out a while and are not cutting edge tech.

They will release the app for other phones (including the TB) as soon as they get comfortable that it can run well. Would you rather they release it for all phones and it not run or wait for them to optimize it for each group of phones they release it for?

Patience young padawans....

How crazy is this though, that having an older phone is an advantage for a change?!? Gave my wife my Droid X and got the Tbolt, and watched in sadness as she enjoyed streaming netflix goodness last night at a lame party while I was without entertainment. Curse you, cutting edge technology!!!!

:)

I can even verify that Netflix runs without a single hiccup on old school Droid 1 too, rooted or stock. Can't catch a break!

I thought I read that there's already a version of the Netflix app that will work on more rooted phones.

Edit: Here's the thread:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/ha5oh/root_how_to_edit_your_buildprop_to_make_netflix/

This was really good news as it seems to contradict, or at least relativize, some of what that Qualcomm guy was saying at MWC. For unrooted phones, or rooted ThunderBolts, I think it's just a matter of time until Netflix (and others) update their software to work on the Thunderbolt.

BTW, I doubt Blockbuster has anything to do with this. It was added to the Evo 4G in an OTA update a while back.

This whole thing is pretty stupid. Netflix works on the two Nook Color's that my kids have. All I had to do was change the model and manufacturer in the build.prop file and it works. Quality is not perfect...but good enough is much better than nothing.

My wife has the first gen iPad and Netflix works on that as well...so here I am with two devices that both released this year and I get no love from Netflix.

My Thunderbolt and Galaxy Tab (WiFi only) = Fail regardless of "tweaks" to the build.prop file.

I'm thinking that when Netflix hired Android coders...they didn't get the cream of the crop LOL. We've been waiting for Netflix for over a year now and they finally release it for 5 phone models...that's pretty ridiculous IMO.

I think they are targeting phones that have more users and the Google flagship models. I don't understand how almost every other developer can produce a product that runs on most of not all phones with at least froyo and netflix can't make an app that runs on half of the phones out without having to root. I'm thinking they rushed it out because Google announced the movie rental service and figured XDA would do most their work for them.

Yeah...they definitely went with flagship devices that already had large #'s of users. They probably wanted to "shut up" as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. But 5? 5 phones are officially supported? Haha! That's just funny. They have an entire section of their website dedicated to "Netflix for your Android Phone" and they have 5 phones listed? They even numbered them 1-5 LOL!

Netflix: Rent as many movies as you want for only $8.99 a month! Free Trial

I'd be embarrassed to put it out like that...

I've been refreshing that page just to see what phone will be #6 :D

You sire just made me spit out my coffee!!!

I think the problem with apps like Netflix, is that you aren't just dealing with Netflix. They have to make sure that the movies are 100% copy protected to appease the MPAA idiots. So they are going to have to test the newer phones until the MPAA and networks sign off on them.

I know that the chips in the TB have the necisary DRM, but it is new hardware and the MPAA and networks are going to have to approve before Netflix will release anything. They are not going to kill the goose, it is the same reason why Hulu blocked mobile devices.

I talked to a Netflix tech support dude and he said that HTC is the one that is creating the app, NOT Netflix, since HTC knows how to put the security measures in place for their specific phones. That's why the Incredible already has it but it doesn't work on the TBolt. Supposedly, their working on it now.

We'll get it eventually...

Now's good.

How/Where did you get Hulu?

I couldn't locate the original post but this is what to do

Download the zip file below.

Then with root explorer, make sd card r/w (read/write) not r/o (read only).

Copy the 4 files to the sd card area - data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib and paste. When it ask you to overwrite the files say yes..

Now open browser and go into settings and uncheck mobile view (it will not work with mobile view active).

Restart Phone then go to Hulu.com and enjoy...

If you notice that videos stop playing or freezin (some people have stated) You can uninstall the updates from flash 10.3 in the market and then reinstall flash again then go into the zip file and just extract the libflashplayer.so file and copy that to the same place listed above. You should be good then
