Anyone NOT root their device yet?

So we all know here that to get the best out of your Android device of choice, majority of users will recommend: Rooting.

but to get the other side of the story.. any people out there that have NOT rooted their device throughout it's lifetime? reason?

i'm a fairly new Android user and so far i don't think rooting is in my future any time soon. i kinda like what android offers to me so far (that's with Sense UI over it). and i ain't much of a technical person so the steps to root my device scare the heck outta me lol.

so if theres anyone else out there (or am i just the only one? lol). did you NOT root?

My G1 was stock for the first year if its life. Got bored with it, rooted it game changer. My current phone was stock for about 2 weeks. Couldn't live with out root, once you have it you need it. Its like crack.

I never rooted my Moment when I had that, and it took me a couple months with the Epic before I decided to root it. I, like many others was scared of bricking my phone, but if you can follow directions well, and are willing to read and research things completely, then its pretty easy to do.

Now that I've rooted my phone and flashed a custom ROM, I'll end up wanting to do it to every device I ever get because its pretty amazing. I finally have my phone performing, and looking the way I want it.

Rooting is like cocaine for geeks. You'll try to stop doing it and the next thing you know you're up for 3 days straight, clutching your phone and peeking through the blinds thinking the FBI and Verizon are out side with guns.

I have not rooted. Have had my Droid X for probably 8 months or so.

Just don't see what would be so great about it.

I have yet to root my Inspire or my wife's Captivate, but I'm kind of wanting to root mine. Just seems like it'd be really nice to get rid of the AT&T bloatware and have a couple extra customization options. The downside is that its much more of a task to root my phone than my wife's, so I'll have to do a little extra studying to get the courage up to do mine. If my wife starts complaining about lag though, I know exactly how to fix it on her phone: Root and ROM

No immediate plans to root. I don't know of anything that I would personally do/use that I can't already. Why take the risk? Plus, I got no time for all the research I'd need to do prior to rooting to feel comfortable.

Some people love it, I get that. I'd love it too if I needed tethering or longer battery life, or I was running Motoblur. Otherwise, blah.

i will give you 3....

1. load custom kernels for better performance and battery life.. and other functions (full hdmi out)

2. delete bloatware to free internal memory.

3. its my device and I want to!

if you dont have a reason to root, dont do it. no reason to risk damaging your phone if you dont really know why you want to root, in the first place.

personally, i wanted a custom rom for better battery life and a fast (MUCH faster) phone.

The choice to root is one the user has to make. I haven't rooted my thunderbolt because I don't have a need to yet. I had rooted my D2G and D1. The D1 had so little internal memory removing the bloat was needed, not to mention the early upgrade to Froyo which allowed Flash, and there was/is a giant dev community for the D1. I rooted the D2G because I was used to the D1 and well moto took the user and bent them over and had their way with them after locking the bootloader. I would use apps that require root but without the dev support and the ease of changing roms. With the thunderbolt there are no roms out there that tempt me to make the change, in fact after reading posts in the root forums it looks like it may just cause more trouble currently. Also the majority of Android users do not even know what root is much less why they would need to root. The majority of Android users are not active on a forum dedicated to the OS.

haven't rooted my dhd and i don't think i ever will as i'm not that technical a person.

was considering it though with the help of a mate after i found sense to be a bit laggy and bored of the icons, but after installing adw launcher, the phone's not lagging anymore and the new icons i have suit me down to the ground.

I haven't rooted my device yet. So far, I am happy with the device as is, I am not aware of the benefits that make it worth the effort on my part and I frankly don't know how.

I've had my galaxy s six months and not routed it. Aside from wondering if the warranty would be invalid, I don;t see what I have to gain from doing it.
Even on froyo I didn't see any of the lag problems people have complained about.

One advantage could be removing the three pages of manufacturer supplied apps I will never use, that might prompt me to get round to it but some of those apps probably include processes that should never be deleted.

Howsit, brahda. Good to see the 808 state represented here. When I first got my original Incredible, I waited until four months before I decided I wanted to root my phone. I had it rooted for six months until a few weeks ago. I started to have random reboots happen on the phone and factory resets didn't help. I unrooted the phone and still the random reboots kept coming. I sent it back to Verizon and got a replacement under warranty. So the refurb I have now is stock and I decided to keep it stock. I kind of miss Titanium Backup Pro and ROM Manager but that's it. The stock phone does all what I want. Battery life is okay and it is about the same as when I rooted the phone.

I've not had cause to root my Galaxy S yet, as I'm happy with it and it's working just fine as it is.

I did root my neighbour's new LG Optimus GT540 for him, to get rid of the useless Facebook and other social networking junk which was hogging the front screen. Phone was purchased in Hong Kong but is used in mainland China, hence the need to remove the seemingly useless stuff.

So true, once you root you will never go back.

Screenshots, wifi tethering, backing up the Nand, all amazing things that is impossible without root.

Not to mention most Android phones are bloated, and don't receive updates in a timely manner.

I rooted my friend's Samsung Moment, updated it from 2.1 Eclair to Froyo 2.2, and he is totally in love with it again.

Those of you who don't know what root is, or don't appreciate it, you're missing out big time. BIG TIME.

I haven't had my Optimus very long but I can't think of a reason I need to root it, at least not yet. maybe if I want to tether I will have to do that. Until a specific need comes up, I"m sticking with the factory settings.

As I posted earlier in this thread, I had my Incredible rooted for a few months, had problems with my phone (issues with the phone, not because it was rooted) got a replacement and now I am keeping my refurb phone stock. I don't see much I'm am missing other than flashing new ROMs and having Titanium Backup Pro. The factory Sense UI is fine with me and I now backup with My Backup Pro. Everything is running smoothly and I don't miss much from my previously rooted phone. Maybe I my reconsider when/if I get bored. I'm more interested in what is coming out in new 4G phones at the moment.
